The point is...........this isnt an academic battle as Ive stated.........its all about Sports.

Also.......in case you aren't aware, it really doesn't matter where you get your degree from, its all about your grades and how good you are at whatever career you chose.

I can tell you why I did..............I actually could have gone to UT. I was in the top tier of my class. But, I chose Utsa because I had a great job at the time......that Im actually in as a career now. I was in design/architecture, and San Antonio has great architecture in and around the city. At the time the classes were smaller at Utsa compared to UT (still are) and the junior/senior year architecture and design studios were held at the downtown campus. The department regularly took walking field trips to the historic hotels and buildings downtown and these field trips coincided with our design projects. So, in a nuts , the school of design and architecture suited me more at Utsa.

    *shrugs*
    you're an architect? nice

i went to UTSA because i thought it was the best school in san antonio. i too had a really good job that is now my career...i had to make school work around that...that was the reason i went to uiw for grad school, they offer most of their classes at night to suit people working the traditional 8 hour work day. i considered UTSA for grad school but a lot of their courses were during the day.

right out of high school i got into texas state and utsa but had it in my mind that i wanted to be a newspaper reporter. plus also i liked the work i was doing and didn't want to leave it behind. i ended being a reporter at sac before realizing how much that sucked, found the business world tempting and went to UTSA. maybe if i did i wouldn't be 27 with gray hairs

nice, way to call me out on my chairs...

...i love and support UT Football, i'm 4 year season ticket holder and annual donor to the longhorn foundation...we tailgate like mofos every gameday in austin...i also have spurs and cowboys things for when i get down at those games, guess the chairs were the only ones in the pictures...

...UTSA doesn't have much "tailgating gear", we're actually working with the bookstore and a few distributors to get more things available. they do have chairs but the logo on them suck. we got emailed the other day from the bookstore general manager that they are no carrying flags. we're trying to get them to get those pop up tents with the new logo on them.

i like the fire and passion...i'll need to do something about the chairs!

there are so many old, white alumns that go to football games in austin that it makes me sick. literally...everyone shows up late, most people leave at halftime or earlier, and are always on the phone or having stupid non-game appropriate conversations.

oh, and don't EVER stand up during game play. i almost had to kick a 70-something's ass cause he wouldn't stop asking everyone to sit down WTF?

props to ut for an awesome tailgating environment and building the mecca of football in the state of texas...but 90% of the fans suck ass...

    ...oh, and that traffic

I have nothing against UT.......had a g/f that graduated from there......went up to Austin for 2 solid years when we dated. I stayed in the girls dorm many a time.........that was cool. BUT! I found UT to have too many students. The campus was too spread out for me as well. Not dogging it, but it just didnt suit me. I wanted to go to a smaller university. With smaller classes. Unfortunately that has changed now I heard. Some of the classes at Utsa are over 200 and when the seats run out, you have to sit in a satellite classroom and view everything from a monitor. Now that SUCKS.

" Oh, look at me I went to UT Austin, I am better than everyone else" yeah ing right. Keep thinking that you up. It is really actually quite hilarious. Like I said I am going to kick back and watch at UTSA's freakish growth in all areas in the next 7-8 years. Just watch and learn.

Actually its quite the opposite........they are going to be more selective. You have to if you want to become Tier 1.......which is what they are striving to do.

Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.

Your degree from UTSA has about the same texture, consistency, and worth as one sheet of Charmin. And I am better than you.

    Peligro,

    1. We may have an 80 year head start as an ins ution, but our mission statement was completely different prior to the 1960s. We were primarily a teachers college, not the comprehensive University we are today.

    2. Stagnation, In what sense?

You mention student population, we are the 5th largest university in the state behind UT, A&M, UNT, and U of Houston at just over 29,000 students. Last year Texas State was the 3rd most popular choice for incoming freshmen (by total number of applications received). Unlike UTSA, we are experiencing controlled growth. As it currently stands, the community infrastructure of San Marcos cannot support more than roughly 33,000 students. City officials are working on ways to improve this, but for now we are controlling our growth by tightening our enrollment standards, and moving classes away from San Marcos to Round Rock, Austin, and San Antonio. On one hand it keeps us from becoming a larger ins ution, but it also allows us to be more selective on the students we accept.

Academically our standards are higher than ever before. We continue add new graduate and PhD programs every year; Several of our programs (geography, history, creative writing, nursing, forensic anthropology, and nanotechnology... the ones I can quickly think of off hand) have received accolades from their respective fields in the past decade.

Athletically? I stated this earlier. 3 Commish Cups in 8 years. While our Men's programs struggle, we have won the All Women's Cup 9 of the last 10 times. Since I arrived here in 2004, I have seen us win numerous conference championships; athletic facility improvements undertaken (soccer complex, baseball / softball stadium, video boards for basketball / volleyball, baseball, softball, and football stadium improvements); and a push to move out of the Southland Conference

Physical Growth? Anyone who went to Southwest will tell you that this is not their school, and they are right. We are 5 years into our current master plan which has added several new buildings; campus improvements including Concho Green, sculptures, fountains, and increased signage; and we have created a new campus in Round Rock.

Stagnation is far from the word I would use to describe Texas State.

    3. If you don't mind me asking, why made you decide to go to UTSA? (general curiosity, no malicious intent)
Also just to be clear I am on the "lets all get along with a healthy rivalry" bus.

I work with a few Texas State grads who constantly dog their alma mater's academic and athletic programs. They alwasy about how the leadership has no vision and that they are losing time while UTSA is growing. But that being said it is just their opinion I guess. UTSA has plenty of their own apathetic alum.

I chose UTSA becaus eI am from Austin hence my parents are from Austin and I wanted to get away from home. I wasn't sure what to expect, but at the end of the day I rolled out of there in 3 years with a degree in accounting in 2004.

I think TSU has some fantastic programs, but as much as UTSA gets the 'UT' credit, I think that TSU gets overshadowed bu UT as well. I know you guys see plenty of longhorn gear on campus in San Marcos, just something both schools need to fight through.

UTSA football should help cure that for BOTH schools. So as I started lets hope for a great rivalry both academically and athletically. We will all be better off for it.

And for the smack talkers keep it coming from both sides, let's get the rivalry started.

    -P
