tlongII,,,I actually watch replays of every single NBA game..I never sleep..I count dunks ..
actually the big 3 score inside they just dont dunk, they should be up there in layups.. anyone know where to find that?

And yet, Denver is the Spurs' doormat, and launching pad:
2005: won 4-1 in the first round, won NBA Championship
2007: in case you thought that was a fluke... won 4-1 first round, won NBA Championship
Despite Denver's tin-man tough-guy image. Despite their posturing. Despite their, yes, dunking.
Gee, wow, maybe dunks..... AREN'T IMPORTANT??????
lots of people in this forum somehow despise dunks, whether its an excuse because Spurs is in the last dunk stats or they just think that is irrelevant for championship. Dunks got nothing to do with championship, everybody knows that. All dunks do are creating ESPN or NBA TV highlights and attract more or newbie fans to watch them play which makes games more interesting. Dunks also can means more assurance in scoring points since in NBA level 95% of players dunk successfully (unlike some amateur games), all defender can do is foul the dunker or praying for a miss (most common reaction is getting out of his way). Duncan used to dunk alot back in his early days, it was exciting...but i think win is more important than some flashy moves. But 27?? I guess it doesnt hurt to do it just a little bit more....
yeah, might as well bring back James White!
Spurs are 10th in the NBA at finishing inside at .605%.

Closest thing I could find to lay-ups but i suppose this stat includes dunks.
They are also last in attempts inside with only 26%.
Don't know if that really matters.
I just checked the winning% for teams.
The first 10 teams in inside attempts win 50%
The next 10 win 41%
The last 10 win 58%
In every category you have good and bad teams so I don't know if there is anything significant there. But at least it does not look too bad to be a jump shooting team.

Do dunks count as more points?
</thread>
Spurs play under the rim much like a WNBA team.
sadly, dunks seem to overrate some players in the media
Dunks signify athleticism. The spurs are dead last in athleticism. I don't know why Pop is so against adding players with athleticism and except for 2 or 3 players would rather have a team full of jump shooters.
Dunks are a high % shot. So the more you can make the better.
do you have the list of teams in this category? I wouldn't be surprised that teams belonging to that group have a dominant low post player with several shooters surrounding him. while teams in the first category are primarily dribble drive teams.
however, at 41%-58% range, it's too far from conclusive to say which strategy is best.
When I posted this stat in another thread a couple weeks back, I mentioned that the only thing that bothers me about not dunking is that it's another indicator of not being aggressive near the basket. The Spurs are near the bottom (at the bottom?) in the league at getting to the foul line. So, though I don't care that they don't dunk, they can definitely improve in driving to the hoop and getting to the line. Get extra free throws is good no matter how much you want to analyze it.
Denver, who leads the league in dunks (as if that's a real stat) is shooting at essentially the same percentage as San Antonio (47%).
Could be that dunks are indicative of absolutely nothing at all.
I guess there is a variety of reason to belong to one or the other category.
To answer your question The team in each group, ordered (Utah is #1, Toronto #30)
Teams 1/3: Utah, Phi, Cha, Den, Min, OKC, Bos, Hou, Lac, Lal
Teams 2/3: Mil, NYK, Pho, Chi, GSW, IND, NJN, SAC, Mem, Orl
Teams 3/3: Was, Det, Cle, Noh, Por, Mia, Dal, ATL, SAS, TOR
Great...and what has Denver accomplished with their dunks?![]()
Reason being that there are far fewer dunks than other shots overall so it doesn't make that big of a splash in overall shooting % but dunks are no doubt a higher % shot .
Dunks are great shots if you can even call them shots. They fire up the home crowd are an exciting play and are an easy 2 points.
