I think Shaq is trying to pave the way for a spot on the Spurs bench for his oldendays years. Screw him, he was an ass to David and Tim and the rest of the Spurs for so long. Im not going to forget it. You can be a foe on the court and not have to be a jerkoff but Shaq went out of his way to badmouth the Spurs. him.

Not really until after '99. Dave more than held his own against Shaq during the early years of Shaq's career.

Unfortunately, the prime years of Shaq's career (and peak of his dominance) coincided with the Admiral's back reducing him to glorified role player.

I met Shaq 1 time when he was going to Cole in SA. He was an F'n prick. I had seen him play a few games in high school & knew he'd be in the NBA (just a hunch, but how could a dude that tall & talented not be). I approached him after a game & told him he was going to be a great player. He told me to F off. To this day, I could care less about him. He NEVER gave credit to the big 50. For him to give credit to him noe means nothing in my book. All he's trying to do is save face. F Shaq!

You want him to speak the truth? How Drob couldn't win it till Duncan got there? He was trying to be nice since DRob is in the hall soon. He could have spoke his mind, and all would still rip him.

Shaq is going to push to be traded to the Spurs from the floundering Phoenix Suns, ala a Gasol type trade. Would you all like the Diesel to finish his career out in a San Antonio Spurs uniform? Opinions? I for one would not mind him being here.

Do you realize how ing stupid this logic is?

Shaq couldn't win it until Kobe and Phil got there...and later DWade.

Kobe couldn't win it until Shag got there.

MJ couldn't win it until Scottie and Phil got there.

Magic never won it without Kareem...

Kareem never won it without Magic, or Oscar.

KG couldn't win it until Ray and Paul got there.

Paul couldn't win it until KG got there.

Duncan coudn't win it last year because Manu wasn't all there.

Bird never won it without Chief and McHale, and he lost plenty of times with them.

Cousy couldn't win it until Russell got there...Russell was surrounded by 5-7 other HOF'ers ever other year of his career when he won it.

LeBron hasn't won it yet because...there's hasn't been anyone else there, yet.

Tell me stupid ...do you not see the hole in your argument?

Tell me stick...how is David Robinson different than anyone else?

    BTW props to Shaq

I expect there are going to be a lot of Drob's former critics joining him...now that they've grown up and David doesn't make them feel like a bunch of insecure es...because he simply walked on the court and could do things most of them had been trying to do for their entire life and still couldn't...plus he could speak in complete sentences.

Next up on the praise list....Mr. Charles Barkley...we're listening Chuck.

Old isn't an excuse...Drob was old the last time he won a le...and he was defending Shaq when he did it.

Robinson's prime was wasted by horrible front-office moves and bad luck with injures. Strike 1 was refusing to pay Strickland in '92. Strike 2 was signing Vinny Del Negro to be the point guard. Strike 3 was ever trading for Rodman, who was great in the regular season but then decided he'd concentrate on his feud with the coach instead of how to beat the Rockets. Strike 4 was hiring that ass Bob Hill, who alienated everyone on the team (most of all Rodman). Strike 5 was trading for Charles Smith, who must have played all of 20-30 games in the 4 years he was on the cap, to replace Rodman after the team's '95 flame-out. Mix in mings, the team's clear #2 guy, blowing out his knee in '92 and Robinson's being injured and unable to play in the '92 playoffs and the '96-'97 season, and he only had three decent shots at a le:

    1) 89-90: his rookie year. Spurs lost in game 7 on the road in Portland in OT thanks to a monster steal from behind by Clyde Drexler when Wingate was about to complete a wide-open layup for the game-winner at the buzzer. That miracle play was the only thing keeping the Spurs out of the Finals that year against Detroit (who they probably would not have beaten though).
    2) 90-91: Can't blame David for that one. He averaged 25.75 ppg, 13.5 reb, 3.75 blk on 69% shooting in the series loss to GS while getting swarmed relentlessly.
    3) 94-95: Outplayed by Olajuwon. Hats off to Hakeem and the Rockets.

I've never seen one guy take so much for one series.

David wouldn't say (or least not enough, I know I saw him drop an f bomb once, I think it was on Harvey Grant)...that's really what it's all about.

I, as a Drob fan, try to make it up for that shortcoming so that Drob won't have to do all the dirty work.

Painful memory - it me years to get over that series.

Maybe Shaq's grown up. I'm pretty sure Dave would be all for forgiving Shaq for his unkind comments from years ago.

I thought it was a nice thing to say, props to Shaq.

My bad... it wasn't Wingate who got the ball stolen from behind; it was Willie Anderson. Wingate's the one who made the great pass to get him that almost-sure layup after stealing the ball from Porter with about 4-5 seconds left in the game.

I think Shaq is realizing his career is about to come to an end and he is getting nostalgic. Showing respect to D-ROb and others now shows that he wants to be a part of all what they represent and have his own legacy himself. Props to him in changing his clown at ude and realizing that to be right there with them, class is a must

Shaq had to become an asshole to develop killer instinct. He wasn't that way when he first came into the league...he was like a big puppy. He had the body of a monster but he wasn't truly intimidating, and he got owned by some of the better centers in the league...perhaps none moreso than David Robinson.

He became an ahole to intimidate people...he developed an at ude as mean as his body is fearsome, and it worked.

I forget who it was..I think it was against Hakeem in the finals, but he got his ass whupped(which Hakeem did at least once to every great center in the league during his career) and I think Shaq's Dad told him that he lost because he showed Hakeem too much respect. After that Shaq became incredibly disrespectful...and much more intimidating and respected himself.

That said...he's been a total ahole. Act or not, he crossed the line verbally on more than one occassion. He's no longer copping the at ude because he's on the downside now, his championship days are more than likely over, and there's not much to be gained by having that at ude except leaving an impression and legacy of being a disrespectful jerk.

I always knew he respected Drob deep down inside...there's simply something wrong with you if you don't respect David Robinson. And Shaq? The ahole wasn't the real Shaq, that was the act...he was a military brat, there's no way his old man let him grow up with that kind of at ude. It was something he adopted after he came into the NBA.

    +1

Nevertheless, it's about time that Shaq finally decided to give The Admiral his props. Surprising really.
Shaq is giving props not because he wants to or he has a big heart as some says in this thread. Shaq is doing it because it reminds him that his career is almost over and he wants people to say something nice about him.

Let's not be fooled. Shaq always says one thing and the next day he erases what he said yesterday and create a new one. Speaking of consistency!

I always new Shaq was an admirer of 50.

That's just Shaq's way of dealing with it during his younger years after D-Rob took the scoring le away from him.

Shaq simply isn't the player he once was. Is that a surprise? And you could make a case for Duncan > Shaq. Cause DRob obviously wouldn't have won a le unless he had Duncan.

Shaq constantly got swept, SUPREME, until he hooked up with Kobe, and those weren't his downhill years. If you put DRob on that Magic squad, they win going away. The four surrounding Orlando players were probably all better than anyone David had on any pre-Duncan squad, not named Elliott. David had some sorry-ass "talent" riding on his back for 8 years.

Man I agree with you 100% about not resigning Strickland, that really pissed me off. That guy was a fantastic PG in the day, Id say in his prime every bit as good as TP.
