Yes, but he isn't a centre.
Then again, when you consider how little the spurs are paying him....
remember when durant and green were out and they still got blown out by the thunder![]()

rapper, i told you to stop posting stupid things. if you have a good opinion, say it.
if you have a stupid meandering, keep it to yourself
yah he's another scoring option but his shot selection on offense stinks. If Gooden changes his game.. as in taking what the offense gives and puts in a solid effort on defense then this move should pay dividends.. the biggest being easing the pressure on Tim.
Actually, he's exactly like Bonner: A good but not great defender who assorted idiots on Spurstalk continually talk down because they heard someone else do it or have some personal axe to grind that has little to do with reality.
Didn't everyone here do that with Scola? Seems like he turned out to be pretty good.
Dude get real, Gooden won't be anywhere near 13 and 8, he's not gonna get the minutes and touches to do it.That said, he could be very useful and contribute in our playoff run, hopefully as much as Nazr could. But building totally unreasonable expectations for the guy is only going to cause meltdowns and dissing threads, which would not be deserved.
If he's able to hang on the court for 20-25 mins, plays adequate defense and gets something like 8 and 4, that'd be very helpful to the Spurs.
Gooden is probably better than Nazr in every statistical area, and even though he's not a legitimate NBA center, he's certainly more a legitimate NBA starter.
imagine had we traded for vince carter and also pickin up gooden
we would be deep biatches

Yeah. Gooden is no doubt the best additional big man since David Robinson retired. Tim will definitely face less double team and the Spurs offense can be way better.
Great Pick:
Now, we can start with:
Starters:
Parker
Mason
Finley
Duncan
Gooden
And too better, we can play the clutchs with:
Parker: 81.1% FT
Mason: 88.4%
Manu: 88%
Gooden: 87%
TD: 70%
And too with:
Finley: 83%
K-Thomas: 84%
We can rebound with:
Duncan: 10.6
Gooden: 8.7 (The last game was 13)
And what evidence do you have that backs up this post? Gooden was the 2nd best player on the Cavs during the 07' finals. How does that happen to someone who " messed up too much in key playoff games".
As Charles Barkley would say, David Robinson just rolled over in his grave.
Better than Roger Mason? Robert Horry? Brent Barry? Bruce Bowen?
Five deep........
Whatever.
No .....
This isn't PMB level nut-hugging, but it's close. You gotta go much deeper than a points/reb comparison to get the correct picture here.
Gooden next to Duncan > Gasol
that's precisely the reason why we sucked and lost that game, and it's also the same reason why we lost to thunders the night before last night...Remember when Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili were out and the Mavs still couldn't win.
our guys in blue just don't want to beat the weak teams like thunders and the short-handed spurs without Manu and Duncan.
2OT spurs were complete. mavs lost.
spurs spotted mavs 2 of its big 3. mavs lost.
thunder(!) without durant and green. mavs lost.
mavs suck plain and simple.
There's a chance his game fits in rather well in SA. He's not much of a shotblocker, but otherwise the profile sounds good...a mobile rebounding big who has the ability to average a double figure scoring average from garbage baskets and the occassional jumper without many plays being run for him.
I understand the concerns (other than from the resident crystal meth addict) about his defense. The short answer is we'll see. I know that other players who haven't had the greatest defensive rep came to SA and figured out how to play defense in Pop's system. His rebounding will make up for him not being a defensive savant...somewhat.
All in all, the Spurs just picked up a mobile 27 year old big who's averaged close to a double double in his NBA career for nothing.
