Who gives a crap what J.J. Barea says. He knows that the Mavs have a lock on the 8th seed. There's zero chance for them to play the Spurs or the Rockets. That is why he can talk smak. Instead they will just become first round fodder for the Lakers.
Some real winners in this thread...
It's about time to bust out the "SpurFan Cliche Checklist".

spurs in 5, only because Pop undoubtedly would pull something stupid like playing Ime on Dirk for long stretches or something equally stupid.
who in the is JJ Diarrhea?
It's come to this.

Are you freaking serious? JJ what's-his-face WANTS to play the Spurs? This is the same team that we beat sans Manu and Timmy on their floor this season, right? The Spurs would salivate so much looking forward to this matchup, they'd wash out I-35 and they'd have to take a boat to the little d to whip his smurf ass. I guess, running from the lakers puts you between a rock and a hard place, but DAMN.
While JJ Barea certainly has no right to talk smack, what he says is true - they match up really well with us and always bring their A game when we play them. I could do without a heated rivalry in the 1st round. We have a good chance of beating them,of course, but it wouldn't be easy and we don't need such a tough series to begin the playoffs.
So So silly did'nt we pound them without Tim and Manu. Did'nt one of their wins comes early on when Tony and Manu were out. And how about j. kidd staying in front of Parker?

Jason Kidd couldn't keep up with Tony back in 2003. Tony will on the Mavericks for 38ppg if they meet in the playoffs.
Where is Epic Fail Guy???
Actually, I'm not even sure Utah would be a great matchup. While I do agree that the Spurs can beat them in a best of 7, that would be a very difficult first round opponent given that (A) they are a very physical team and considering we have Ginobili and Duncan still recovering from various sores and injuries, probably not a good bet, and (B), Utah is actually really tough to beat at home (though they aren't good on the road) which would make me believe it may be a longer than expected series.
Honestly, I think Denver and Portland would be the best bets for the Spurs.
You mean a 36 year-old point guard that had microfacture knee surgury won't be able to keep in front of Tony Parker?
Dude, the Mavs beat the Spurs twice this year out of 4 games and 1 of the losses was in double overtime.
I am sure the Spurs would be favored with home court and all but you are just wrong about the matchup.
If Parker, Duncan and Ginob are healthy, the Spurs likely win in a 7 game series. If they are not healthy and miss some games it is totally up in the air.
Home court does not mean as much in this series if you look at the history.
Agree, the Spurs were missing some players. And so were the Mavs missing Jho for a couple of the games.
So if the Spurs are healthy they will likely win. But if they are not it is a 7 game toss up series and you know that funny things can happen in game 7's
Sorry, I live in Dallas with a bunch of Maverick apologists, so I must interject and correct this nonsense.
Playoffs are different than the regular season. You can't really compare the regular season series against these two teams and use that as a predicate to say it will be a seven game series.
In the playoffs, you focus on one team specifically. You also shorten your bench and only play your top players. Plus, you have the ability to hone your defense and stop key guys.
1-7 the Spurs are better than the Mavs, no question.
But defense is where the Mavs will fail. They traded their best defensive players: Harris and Diop. No one on the roster can guard Parker one on one, and if you try a team scheme, he will find open shooters. Mavs already have psyche problems in the playoffs. And I predict they will only have one game where their fade away jumpers go in.
If no major injuries, Spurs win 4-1. Dallas has one game where they shoot lights out and they lose the rest.
Really? I have seen every game these 2 teams have played this decade. And you absolutely can compare the regular season to the post season and you can compare last years post season to the one before. These teams have been evenly matched since the 2002 season when they went 6 games in the playoffs and the Spurs won when Dirk was out with knee injury. They go 7 games in 2006.
I can't put my hands on the stats right now at work but i will bet that over the last 7 years the Mavs and Spurs pretty close to even both regular season and Post season. In fact the Mavs might have a slight edge regular season but post season is almost even. Check the stats.
That's not a stat you ing illegal.
Dude, without Harris and Diop, Dallas has no chance in a 7 game series.
Looking at stats for 7 years will tell you nothing. These teams are very different from 7 years ago. Heck, they are different from last year. Add the fact that injuries to key players existed in each game and you have four games that mean little to determining who would win a 7 game series.
If you want to look at history, look at the past three years, where the Mavs went from losing in the NBA finals to two first round exists without showing a pulse. The Spurs, on the other hand, have won a championship and made it to the Western Conference Finals the last two years. So if I were a Mav fan, I wouldn't bet on history.
Just hope you can climb to the 6th seed, where you will have a chance to survive the first round.
Head to head moron. I'm not talking about us against the rest of the league I am talking about head to head. Mavs vs. Spurs which is what we would be talking about if we play each other. Geesh.

Spurs have the slight advantage as i have already said. But the series has 7 games written all over it. But these two teams are evenly matched against each other.
Typical Mav fan. Over seven years ago the Mavs had Nick Van Excel and Steve Nash. So only a moron would think he could compare head to heads from that team and determine what will happen this year.
And only a moron would compare the head to heads with the 2006 team that had Devin Harris and Diop to determine what will happen this year.
It's this logic that convinces the Mavs to trade Jason Kidd and his bad knees for an up and coming all Star (Devin Harris), two first round draft picks, your back up center, and a ton of cash.
spurs could beat them in 4. 5 if the spurs lose their lucky rabbits foot on the team bus
Typical arrogant Spurs fan who ignores history:
Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
What the does history have to do with the present? Truth it, without Devin Harris, your team has no chance against the Spurs..period. Kidd couldn't beat us with a better team and in his prime when they played in New Jersey..what the is he going to do now that he's out of his prime and doesn't have the talent. Dallas beat us in 2006 because of Harris..period. He led that team and gave us fits. We give Kidd fits. Because you beat us 3 years ago doesn't mean you're going to do it this year.
