We could be the first seed and lose in the first round with the way this team played tonight. I'm glad the Spurs built a cushion this far into the season because they sure aren't playing like a second seed now...

    that's not the case.
What really scares me is that we look more like the 05 Suns tham the S.A Spurs.
    How so?

Spurs should be able to hold onto the 2nd seed. The teams right behind them at 48-26 are both Denver and Houston.

The Spurs next 6 games are: vs. OKC, @ Indiana, @Cleveland, @ OKC, vs. Portland, and vs. Utah.

The Nuggets next 6 games are: vs. New York, vs. Utah, vs. Clippers, @ Minnesota, vs. OKC, and @ Lakers.

The Rockets next 6 games are: @ Phoenix, @ Lakers, vs. Portland, vs. Orlando, @ Sacramento, and @ Golden State.

I just want someone to explain the math that says that the Rockets have clinched a playoff berth and we haven't, despite us holding a better record in the same Division.

Is there some weird tie-breaker voodoo that I'm missing here, or what?

I think I speak for most true fans here when I say the Spurs would be better off to not have bandwagoners like yourself cheering for our team, thanks. I hate when people say erroneous things like "we suck". How could someone who "sucked" be the second seed in a very compe ive Western Conference? I'm curious..

I wouldn't be too sure of that...the Spurs have been playing up and down all season, injuries not withstanding. I would've felt better if they pulled this game out...against a quality opponent...on the road.....but they've been having blips at home as well...last second losses to Celtics, Rockets....grrrr!

Those losses were without one big piece to the puzzle, Manu. You saw the other night when the Clippers made a little mini-run, Manu was the man to stop all that. With him slowly but surely getting back into form, I feel good about the team. They'll be fine. Man up!

Denver's cupcake schedule has to make them the favorites for the second seed. Hopefully they drop a few unexpected ones.

I have faith though it wavers and has quite a bit with the losses this year...I think some Spurs fans, including myself, are spoiled...we expect the Spurs to be clicking on all cylinders this time of the year........not sputtering. I realize injuries, specifically Ginobli's, and TD's tendinitis, play a big part for the inconsistent play. I hope this team starts to click by the time the playoffs roll around or else it will be a short stay for the Spurs. So until that time I'll try to be optomistic but cautious. Or I wish I could man up...but I'm a female so I'll woman up!!!

Denver is up and down sometimes...so I wouldnt be surprised to see them drop some winnable games. The games against good teams left for them are Utah, LA, and Portland.

Of the teams behind the Spurs, two teams have a much easier remaining schedule:

    Denver
    Portland

Both are in the Northwest Division and both will be gunning to the end for that upper spot.

The Spurs really have to take care of the remaining schedule to keep #2 seed.

In the Southwest Division, the Rockets have a slightly easier remaining schedule and are 1 loss behind. Above all else, the Spurs have to stay ahead of the Rockets to at least keep a top 4 seed.
