Pop has been a great coach and I respect him for everything he has done...he along with Duncan made this franchise relavent. But, at this point it's time for him to go. If we hold on to him because of the past, then we are asking for trouble. That being said I love him for all the memories...it's been a good ride but it's over. It's almost time to blow this thing up. We all knew this time would have to come eventually.

This topic is a perfect example of ungrateful spoiled bandwagon fans. You know how many teams wish they had one NBA Championship ring? and yet you selfish salad tossing s are pissed you don't have number five?

Now you know why I had to bail on the Spurs 7 years ago it wasn't Pop or the team it was the embarrassment of having to be part of your silly little bi-polar meltdowns after every loss!

And don't give me that lame ass reply about how message boards are for fans to vent and a real fan vents! A real fan keeps that inside and waits until deep in the playoffs to talk about coaching mistakes and a real fan waits until the season is over before he talks about replacing a coach or trading a player.

WTF are you all going to do if the Spurs go all the way? "oh wait I was only venting! I never really meant to get rid of pop yuk yuk!"

You sorry ass excuses for Spurs fans are not worthy of the rings you already have If your so passionate about Pop leaving or Avery Johnson sucks, then give back the rings or STFU!

If I was Peter Holt and had to read this ? I would stick my index finger deep in coach Pops ass and give you all a dirty Sanchez you truly deserve.

There's no way Pop should ever be fired. When he feels like leaving is when he should leave. Even with his questionable coaching the last few months, he's had the deck stacked against him since even before the season started. I trust that he's doing what he thinks gives the team the best shot at a championship.

If he's still starting Finley and using Vaughn as the backup point guard a decade from now, then maybe a discussion about his job could be in order. Until then, there's no doubt the Spurs are in the best possible hands.

Pat Riley took over for seemingly irreplaceable coaches during a season twice and led.
The most recent being 2006s year of the Poppy smallball loss to Dallas.

If Riley could become coach of the Spurs tommorow I'd jump at the chance.

Spurs will have a 50+ win season with Manu Ginobili missing 30+ games, Tony Parker missing 10 games and Tim Duncan hobbling on hurt knees.

Pop is closer to winning Coach of the Year than he is to getting fired.
+1. How quickly people lose perspective. I was trying to say the exact same thing the other day. With the injuries, I think the season has progressed fairly well.

I'll see what Pop does in the playoffs. But if he continues to coach with his ass, then let's get Avery.

Ive been defending Pop for IDK how long now but his coaching these past couple weeks has just been dissapointing and hard to defend. Hes seems more stubborn and carless about his coaching than just not knowing what to do. If he isnt teaching defense like he used to hes not coming up with any new offensive schemes either.

I love Pop as a coach but it seems as though he has lost his edge.

Pop is definitely ing up right now..but if he was fired in the off-season(which he won't be), there would be at least 25 other teams trying to get him, and he'd probably receive the highest paying contract for a coach in NBA history..

Is Pop well aware of this very enabling at ude that ensures mediocrity for the next 10?

Yes. Except he'll coatail off when Tims gone.

I DEMAND A NEW COACH ,POP IS GARBAGE. GET AVERY JOHNSON. what you guys think?
    Eat .

Pop is still the best coach in the NBA. The crew is just over the hill and quickly falling apart. Even the best are allowed an error in judgment every now and then.

People give Pop way too much credit for the 4 championships. I give the credit to the players. We would have another championship if Pop hadn't screwed us in 06 with his small ball lineup against the Mavs. Even Pop would tell you that the team's success is because of Tim and Manu and Tony and supporting cast and that he's just the coach.
So...Pop doesn't deserve the credit then, but he deserves the blame now?

Can't have it both ways. If it was all the players then, it's all the players now.

You guys are blaming this on Pop? You guys are seriously fishing for excuses if thats the case. You guys think there is a magical rotation that gonna change us from losers to complete winners huh lol. Oh yeah I forgot just put in 37 year old Bruce Bowen and suddenly we are bound for the finals. Wake up! Internally its our personnel. No 2nd tall big man to help cover the rim, no defensive stopper to lockdown the star on the other team(sorry Bruce time to pass the torch), most of our ppl are a half step slower due to age/injury or a combination of the two.

In otherwords we have no defensive presence. Mason's D is garbage, Finley's D is garbage, Bonner's D is garbage, Duncan's D is hampered by injury and has no support, Kurt has good D but lacks height and length to help on switches, Bruce losing a step has made his defense practically nul and void, Manu is still not back to form and Parker has never been a great defender. I could go on..

Externally you guys have to face the damn fact that the rest of the league has caught on to what it takes to win Championships. The best teams understand now that Defense wins championships and they all have younger players buying into that system.

If Pop wants to keep playing his system alot of personnel changes need to be made in the off season.

I was seeing your point at the beginning of your post, but the end ruined it..

so you're saying that teams in the league have just NOW caught on to defense winning championships?..sorry, but that's bull ..

we rank 4th defensively, and we've been extremely inconsistent on D..that speaks volumes on the D of the rest of the NBA teams..there's only 3 great defensive teams this year, and they all play in the East..

saying teams just started realizing that it takes D to win les is one of the stupidest statements I've ever heard..

Can't have it both ways. If it was all the players then, it's all the players now.
If the team would be playing better now and make a deep playoff push, I would give them, the players, the credit. If they do not then I put more of the blame on Pop. That's because I think the Spurs have the right components to be a great team but there has been too much mucking with the lineup by the coach. Yes there have been injuries, but the lineups are still in flux, eg Manu starting the last 3 games.

Too often I feel this team not only has to beat the other team's players, but also overcome their fragile confidence issues, overcome bad refereeing AND deal with Pop's quirks. They have alot in their heads right now.

I agree. They probably have the closest thing to a father/son relationship that there is in the league between superstar and coach. You can't fire your dad, or in this case, your Pop. Funny thing, the second closest is probably Tony/Pop.
