I've never heard of anything but meat ones. Those others are like fish balls or something.
My dad totally set my happy ass up when I was about 4. We had a big chili pequin bush on the front porch and he told me they were Easter egg seeds and if I ate them now they couldn't turn into Easter eggs. Naturally I picked a hand full and popped them. I remember that sadistic bas and his friends just laughing their asses off.
I've never heard of anything but meat ones. Those others are like fish balls or something.
No need to use zucchini if you are in Texas. Mexican calabacita squash is sold everywhere. I've never done it with meat though. But I do always top it with cheese.
My mistake.
I'll have to check that out.
I miss chile picin.
Those are the only kind of enchiladas we have in west Texas---because the chiles come from New Mexico. You can buy those dried in bags anywhere; it's what I use for chile colorado and in tamales. But if you want a really good, and easy subs ute, buy a canned brand called Las Palmas. Not as good as homemade, but not bad either.
Rick Bayless, Skip's brother, is a badass.
I like how he goes into detail on the Mexican food he's preparing.
He has a genuine appreciation for Mexican food.
He over pronounces the spanish j's though like when he says cajeta. He says it as cahhhhhheta.
That's the only thing I don't like about him. He makes the Los Angeles newscasters look subtle.
My grandfather did something similar to me.
Back in my hometown they have tamales called "borrachos" which are basically tamales filled with chile piquin (you have the correct spelling by the way). They also have tamales dulces which are filled with sweet corn and raisins.
My grandfather asked me if I wanted a tamal dulce and I said yes. He sneeked me a borracho and I ate the thing without thinking twice. Twenty seconds later, I was crying my ass off and the entire family was laughing at my ass.
My aunts and uncles love to remind me about said event.
I've always had it that way, without the meat and with cheese that is.
Yea, it's annoying, but he makes "real" Mexican food and I can appreciate that.
That means you have to leave your comfort zone, 09er. You will be in my neck of the woods. And it's NOT the southside!![]()
Yeah, I especially hated it because I couldn't stop crying. My dad beat the out of me from as early as I can remember and I had already started taking pride in not crying when he did it. My eyes were streaming tears and I got really pissed off that I couldn't stop them...![]()
I'm not an 09er anymore. I'm a 49er. , I hate the way that sounds.
By the way, while at my nephew's last football game (he lives in the 09), there was some wearing a shirt that had 78209 in big white letters across his chest.
That was the douchiest I have ever witnessed.
Those little ers are hot, but they make a mean ing salsa.
, now I want me some salsa de molcajete.
Same here pork and not soupy with some corn tortillas, eat it once a week.
My grandma using tuna fish and fries it to make a meatball/crab cake deal.
Damn
We need a Spurstalk Authentic Mexican Cookbook forum. Or even just a recipe forum...
I've got some killer gringo tex/mex stuff and can definitely add to the smoking & BBQ section...
I decided a long time ago that eating good was not going to kill me and that the current food fat phobia was total bull .
For awhile it was all the rage to wear your zip code on a tshirt, but around here it was black shirts with white Olde Tyme lettering. Like that kind you see the people in car clubs stenciling on the back window advertising the club. It looked ing ridiculous.
The 210+210=420 shirts are stupid as .
My babysitter's son has one that is black with gold letter/numbers.
People do some stupid .
Not a bad idea.
Smoking & BBQ would definitely need its own forum.
I was an 09'er, and no one ever told me there was a tshirt ..![]()
Maybe some sub-threads, but I think smoking pork especially plays right into a lot of the classic Mexican dishes...
Because only the y 09ers wear them.
An over-18 forum?![]()
True ... and I was only an 09er for about 7 years or so. Most of my childhood was spent between Theo & Malone.![]()
