Regarding the move, it's obviously a move to keep his rights over the summer. The Spurs aren't going to call him up and put him in the rotation. I haven't seen him play in a while so I can't really comment on how smart it is to ensure his rights.
I hope that the cut isn't Hairston. I know his outside shot needs work but the rest of his game looks solid. I'd much rather the Spurs keep Hairston in the fold than Williams.
