Palin issued this “apology accepted” statement, getting in one last hit:

“Of course it’s accepted on behalf of young women, like my daughters, who hope men who ‘joke’ about public displays of sexual exploitation of girls will soon evolve. Letterman certainly has the right to ‘joke’ about whatever he wants to, and thankfully we have the right to express our reaction.”

On behalf of my fellow man, I apologize for the derogatory statements made in direction towards beautiful intelligent women such as the Palin clan and woman all alike across this beautiful nation (especially the far NW).

Scratch Embassy off of my hotel list. If you're stupid enough to be cowed by the 25% of the population that is the Republican base when the Republicans aren't even in power, you deserve to lose business. If I were a stockholder, I would be furious that they pulled advertisement from the late night show with the longest running host, and the top ratings, as of last week.

I'm not sure if someone already posted it, but Obama barely got over 50% of the vote...

Good point. Values are context dependent.

But I find it interesting that -- more and more -- criticism from the right distills the outrage of an even *loftier* political correctness, rather than proceeding from the vantage of (a more traditional) *individualism*. Racial justice is not maligned but instead upheld by Sotomayor's conservative critics, who would protect us from her racism and sexism.
