In August 2007, Richard Jefferson pledged $3.5 million toward the University of Arizona's future basketball and volleyball practice facility. UA officials believe it is the largest donation ever from a former player.

Awesome, didn't know that. He's another Steve Smith

Really? I think you keep both. They're cheap. Seriously. Start looking at the money side.
I'd rather get a cheap big or a cheap point guard than two cheap wings who aren't very exciting prospects ... especially if the Spurs have RJ, Manu, Bowen and Mason at the wings.

So he would be out in time for our 2010 plan, correct?
Nope. That date leads to the 04-05 season, which would make the contract end in 2011.

if the spurs do get bowen back, would we be able to pay him less than he was making last year?
Yes, they would pretty much have to, money-wise. He would probably be offered the veterans' minimum, or at very most the LLE. He would probably be fine with this to stay in San Antonio, not to mention the fact that he would already have $2 million on the season from the Bucks.

Since I'm too lazy to read through 9 pages, are we speculating that Bowen will be bought out or no? He's the only one I would be extremely bummed about if he didn't return to the team.

Now that I think about it, Thomas could very well be bought out by the Bucks. I wouldn't be shocked to see him back in a Spurs uniform.

Like Oberto, Thomas is a good deep bench big. Still need a starter level big but the summer is just getting started

Its a no brainer. I still think Thomas has a little gas left in the tank.

He proved that down the stretch when Duncan woudl sit out getting his double doubles every night.

Plus, he could easily fill that Tony Massenburg, Kevin Willis role.

Wow, I love how many of us a ST called this trade months ago. Good job minds of ST. Can 228 post the link to the RJ Think tank thread please?

This is outstanding and everything that needs to be said has been. Fills a hole, is a big time 4th option (legit "big 4" now at positions of need) and is a Spurs type player.

Spurs need to add a center and stay healthy, and this move alone does not put them past the Lakers, but it makes them damn close if they can add another piece.

Bad news is, that they do not have room to sign someone using the MLE.

Bowen would likely be back at the vet minimum. He'll be paid ~$2M from the Bucks and the vet minimum is worth about $1.4M, so he'll be getting a fair salary next season.

Gooden's not a realistic option anymore unless he's willing to play for Bonner-level money. That might end up being his market value though.

Won't the league be paying the majority of that minimum salary also, since Bruce is 38?

Yeah Bowen is gonna make his money, plus, Bowen has never cared about money, he's proven that in the past by taking pay cuts and restructuring deals and what not.

Putting money aside, who is a better fit for this team, Rasheed or McDyess? As we all know, Rasheed is versatile and can hit the 3. McDyess likes to do the dirty work, plus he can knock down the mid range jumper.

Now I REALLY hope we have something in the works to address our frontcourt depth...

Thomas and Oberto are not any big loss. The spurs aren't winning with those guys.

Right now I'd take Dice over Sheed pretty clearly. Now that the Spurs have another good defender to keep people out of the lane, Sheed's D becomes less important than McDyess' rebounding.

This trade is good either way but the idea of getting Bruce Bowen back has me dancing in my basketball pants. It's still a no-brainer even if the Bucks decided to keep Bowen, but it would be bittersweet.

And I'm guessing the Ghost will be very happy about today's developments too.

Not a big loss, but it's a loss of bodies. Still, there isn't a chance in the Spurs are done making moves so I nominate my first post in this thread for Captain Obvious quote of the week.

For the playoffs, Parker will play 38mpg, Ginobili 32mpg and Jefferson 40mpg. IMO, Hill is a keeper and will play 20mpg split between the PG and SG spot.

After that, only 14 mpg (6 at SG and 8 at SF) are available. Bowen is enough to play these minutes. Having a shooter would be also quite good but he should be damn cheap.

Mason and Finley (if he picks his options) should be traded for a big. They are too expensive for the limited role they can have on this team.

If this trade goes down, the Spurs are back.

Even if RJ regresses further physically, he's still by far the best fourth option the Spurs have had in recent years. As Shoog said, eating up Finley's minutes makes this trade a huge win all by itself.

They are still far from back but its a step in the right direction. They still need a couple key frontline additions.

Good point about Jefferson's minutes. He's a player who can withstand playing a lot of minutes. If the Fab 4 can stay healthy, you don't need that much depth behind them in the playoffs.

Hill alone could be enough ... seriously.
