I would really like to see Anderson on the Spurs. He would be what you need next to Duncan. Good defender, rebounder and shotblocker.

What do you guys think is his price range?

Bird will probably get 3-5 mill a year. I'd say Denver probably re-signs him on the low end of that though, because he really wants to be here and will most likely take a little less to stay. I can't see Denver letting him go either way.

I'd love to see Birdman as a Spur, but there's no feasible way we get him. The only way the Nuggets don't keep him is if someone else massively overpays for him (say 4 years at 7mil).

As much as he might like Denver, this guy needs the dough and even a $1 million a year difference, you telling me that would not matter to him? Also, won't Denver incur the luxury tax, costing them double? Seems to me Denver is chronically in that position, although I can't say I know their situation as of now.

What a difference a year makes! Last year during the off season, any mention of him as a potential free agent signing only brought a slew of jokes, criticisms, and put-downs. This year, he is almost universally desired by the entire forum.

Funny how not doing crack improves your game.

Are you trying to say that Bonner did crack during the playoff series with Dallas?!

If I were saying that, then Mason and Finley and KT would have to be tested too.

Anyone not named Duncan, Parker or Bowen would be tested.

As much as Birdman loves Denver, he is from Texas is he not? If there was any other place he would go, perhaps this would be the place.

It's amazing how everyone's so quick to judge. In these forums, I've seen him accused of doing heroin, being a meth head, being a drug addict, doing crack, doing coke, etc... the original rumor I heard when he was suspended was that he had done ecstasy. But the truth is, none of us really know. If he was going through a tough patch in his life, and made the mistake of doing E with some buddies one weekend it doesn't make him an "addict" and it very likely doesn't even make him a bad person, especially compared to others in the league who have beaten their wives, raped women, etc...

The vibe I'm getting already is that the Nuggets should be able to secure a verbal commitment from Chris Andersen on a new contract -- their first shot-blocker off the bench and the most popular Nugget not named Chauncey or Carmelo -- in fairly fast fashion. Andersen played for a mere $797,581 last season after a two-year drug suspension.

Chris Andersen would be my second choice after Wallace because of his blocking.

"The Birdman" is the Nuggets' top free-agent priority, and both sides are hammering out a fair multiyear deal. Andersen's camp is hoping for a deal around $25 million for five years. The Nuggets are hoping to backload the contract and have Andersen make around $3 million next season, an NBA source said.
Five years is more than I'd want the Spurs to give Birdman. He's more of a good investment over two or three years.

    Chris Andersen | F - C
    Born: Jul 7, 1978
    Height: 6-10 / 2,08
    Weight: 228 lbs. / 103,4 kg.
    College: Blinn Coll. TX (JC)
    Years Pro: 6

    info
Okay.I'll admit it. I LOVE this guy. He plays balls to the wall all the time. This isn't to say he plays WELL all the time, but definitely a 120% type of guy. He doesn't fit with the Spurs, I agree, but after hearing his story and watching him play I'll be a life-long fan. The NBA needs many more team-first hustle guys like "da birdman".Ever seen him flap his wings running back down the court?? Priceless! ...But he's just not Spur material, we need some offensive capability and all he'll do for you is block shots and rebound a bit.

"Doesn't fit with the Spurs" (in other words, Pop's ego won't allow it) is becoming a very annoying realization.

    new deal with Denver

    http://www.denverpost.com/nuggets/ci...201?source=rss

Chris Andersen and the Nuggets have agreed on a five-year contract that could earn Andersen up to $26 million, the player's manager, Mark Bryant, said Tuesday night.

That's more years and more money I'd want the Spurs to give Birdman. Props to him but I'm glad the Spurs didn't get into that bidding war.

    Edit: That Mark Bryant?
