Different deal. Spurs were competing with teams that had much more money to offer. That is not the case now. Unless Portland gets nostalgic.
Can we compete with the Celtics moneywise? I don't know what the Celtics can offer.

If they pick of Sheed, what impact might that have on them re-signing Big Baby and/or Leon Powe?

No one that's interested in Sheed can offer any more than we can, as far as I know.

Since the Celtics are over the cap, along with the Spurs, they can both only offer the Mid-Level Exception (~5.5M)

It seems like this will be a close race between Boston and the Spurs. I hope sheed comes play for us. He'll fill a need for us and I hope we go all out for the MLE. I just have trouble seeing the Celtics offering the same amount of money because they likely want to re-sign one of, if not both of their big men (Powe and Davis). And did Eddie House opt out? Plus will they want to re-sign Marbury? Likely not, but still the Celtics have more players to ink if they want to keep them than the Spurs.
Actually, they already said they want Marbury back, and Marbury said he wants to come back.

Bucher was on ESPN right now and said that the celtics are wanting wallace pretty badly and they would be the one to make a offer tonight...he also mentioned that kevin has been contacting rasheed to play for them.....it will be interesting!
Yeah, I saw that on ESPNEWS.

He was asked what answer the Celtics would have for Cleveland and Orlando's addition of Shaq and Vince, and seemed rather convinced that despite 'Sheed's preference to get back to some warmer weather, Garnett's been successful getting into his ear.

    Of epic proportion.

I knew this 100 degree bull might come in handy eventually.

Eddie House did not opt out. He is coming back as well, came out about 3 hours ago.

Yes, there is a little less than half an hour before free agency officially begins.

Its sad waiting for free agency to open when most of the stuff that comes out in the beginning will probably be stuff we already know or Agents saying that San Antonio is interested when they are not. But I have nothing else to do...

Having said that, I'm not sure anything big is going to happen in 30 minutes...but I'll be up anyways because I'm on the west coast and it'll only be 9 here.

I just don't understand why he'd want to go tho the Celtics if the money is equal. The Spurs is just a much better fit overall.

He'd no question start, the role he'd play (Horry-type) is a proven winner, he's got a good repore with Pop and Duncan, and it's a better climate for those older legs.

But this is 'Sheed, so I guess conventional wisdom kinda' goes out the window...

I don't know about that..The Spurs have made it very obvious who they're after this period...and I have a feeling some good offers will be made right off the bat to prevent overpaying.
