And Gooden as even less than that.

    Again, you'll witness it yourself.
Tell me one thing you have personally seen from Brandon Bass that suggests his Basketball IQ is higher than Drew Gooden's.

I wonder if two months ago Spurfan would be saying Gooden > Bass and Mavfan would be holding to Bass > Gooden.

He's just a albatross when it comes to the offense.

Whether the Spurs tanked or not (which I still think they did), the fact remains that they have 4 championships because they received the #1 overall pick in a year that anyone from a newly born baby the an old man with brain cancer would know who the #1 overall pick should be. It didn't take elite front office skills or a "superior organization" to know Duncan was the right pick #1 overall.
No . That doesn't explain the continued success the Spurs have had since 1997.

It's having the right people in place in the FO.

Dallas doesn't. Their owner likes to pretend he knows about basketball but for years while Dallas had a great offense but zero D, he did what? Nothing. He never tried to improve the teams Defense. Just signed or traded for more offensive players.

and we paid too much for Marion, a veteran who has three rings around his belt, and our former starting 2 guard who started for us in most of the games in the past season.

Because the Mavs were so awesome and on a great run when he bought the team, and it's been nothing but downhill ever since?
No, because he will probably pump his whole billion into the team and still not be able to buy a le. Cuban sucks, he's a flake, and you ain't ever going to win with him as the owner. This is the guy who game planned to stop the Beno Udrih 3-pointer from the corner against the Spurs. True ing story. I am surprised ya'll didn't rush to overpay Beno after we dumped him, I guess Sacto beat you to the punch.

not to mention Stack's expiring contract with 5 million already bought out, dude could have been used more wisely to bait us a better player than Marion currently is.

Is Duncan still on the team? If he is, then yes, it does explain the continued success.

It's not like if the Spurs didn't get Duncan in 1997 they would have found someone comparable a year later.

Dude, you can have the best player in the league but it means if you don't surround them with a team that can challenge for a le.

Lebron and Kobe will testify to that.

How many les would your "superior organization" have if they got the 2nd overall pick in 1997 instead of the 1st overall pick?

He doesn't zone out and forget what play the team is running. He won't completely forget to guard his man. He doesn't try to use a skill he doesn't process and force ugly low post shots.

Again, you'll witness this for yourself.

You cannot possibly give more ing credit to Gregg Popovich and RC Buford than Tim Duncan. That's just ing stupid, and I can't parse the quote above any other way. The Spurs have a great coach and management team, so maybe a mediocre GM/coach only squeezes two or three championships out of Duncan.

Dallas doesn't. Their owner likes to pretend he knows about basketball but for years while Dallas had a great offense but zero D, he did what? Nothing.
Dallas has a Steinbrenner meddler type. It's good and bad, because he spends the money and on personnel decisions they sometimes get it right, but we haven't had cap space for years in order to target FAs. Our only tools for improving the team has been MLE, trades and late first-round picks.

He never tried to improve the teams Defense. Just signed or traded for more offensive players
Right, we never got rid of Drunk Coach and brought in Avery and his emphasis/commitment to defense. Cuban never made any attempt at all to address the team's shortcomings on defense. Right.

Numnuts, I know how fortunate the Spurs were for drafting Duncan. That wasn't my point with the post you quoted. Read it again and then respond.

Have the Spurs done a great job surrounding TD with quality players? Yes. Doesn't change the fact surrounding a once in a generation player with a good supporting cast is a lot easier than acquiring a once in a generation player.

Bass is a better dunker. So you just got less athletic, and have your hopes riding on Shawn Marion, thank god we are not in that situation!

No, a mediocre GM/coach gets you the same amount of rings Garnett was able to get before being traded to the Celts. The same amount Lebron has been able to get. The same amount Kobe was able to get until their GM lucked into the Gasol trade. The Lakers FO is mediocre. The same amount Dirk has been able to get. The same amount Amare and Nash have been able to get.

Dawg the Spurs would've been straight raw and still would've won 4 les if they took KVH with the second pick.

pwned T-Mac and Billups are the only two guys that have as big names as Tim's, but neither of them can erect a Dynasty in San Antonio as Tim did.

    Hey Duncan fan,

Get a ing clue. You can't buy championships in the NBA. You have to have a truly transcendent player or you can forget about winning a le. I estimate only 4-8 of those players at the most, so right off the bat, at least 16-20 teams in training camp have no shot at winning a championship.

    Cuban sucks
He inherited a young team with potential and has paid to keep the team one of the better and most successful franchises in the league. You're right, he's a terrible owner. I'd much rather the Mavs be owned by a guy like Herb Kohl, who isn't a basketball fan and doesn't spend money to improve his team. That would be so much better.

he's a flake, and you ain't ever going to win with him as the owner.
    Okay Nostradamus.

This is the guy who game planned to stop the Beno Udrih 3-pointer from the corner against the Spurs. True ing story.
It's nice to see that Mark Cuban has found a way to activate the manic part of your psychological profile. Good luck with that.

2 of your 3 best players are chronically injured. That's not exactly an ideal situation I'd like for my team to be in either.

Spurs fans see Brandon Bass a half-dozen times, and just because he has good games against the Spurs, they think he does that all year long against everybody.

Typical. Yeah, we get it, the Spurs are the center of the NBA universe and everyone else is just trying to stay in orbit.
