Dallas is having a damn good offseason:
- They get Marion for nothing a little like Spurs get RJ.
- Ross for the min is a damn good deal.
- Gortat for the full MLE was overpaying but he was a player that could have helped them. Gooden was the best plan B available and they got him without making a long term commitment.
- Beaubois shows some nice things in SL.

Mavs have a very nice 8 players rotation (Kidd, Barea, Terry, Howard, Marion, Dirk, Gooden, Dampier). They have some good role players to fill this rotation with a shooter (Carroll), a defender (Ross) and an energy big (Hollins). They were clearly one step behind some teams last year. This year could very well be different.

This is a really, really solid signing for Dallas. Especially if it's in the 2-3mill/yr range.

Again, I really don't know what Spurs fans expect from players. Gooden was GREAT for the Spurs in the short time he was here. He went "1 on 5", because that was what he was asked to do... be aggressive and provide scoring punch for the 2nd unit. Which was exactly what he did. Seriously, if you think McDyess is that much better than Gooden, especially given McDyess' knees could give at any time... you're kidding yourselves.

Fans are funny. When the list of big men was posted by timvp, people said they thought Gooden would get the MLE. Now he goes to Dallas and he sucks for less than that, especially when it is a one-year deal only!

Although Fin has already exceeded 35, I still believe dude can still be a nice player to pick up and his salary is quite cheap for his abilities. If Smokey got traded, for example, to the Bobcats for Okafor, then Fin would be a decent option to fill in as our starting 2 guard. Fin can no longer stay steady at a high level of productivity, but dude sometimes may give us some amazement. IMHO Fin did a pretty good job in the series this year against Mavs, it was Bonner that sucked bad and became a black hole. However, as i mentioned above, Smokey still has pretty much trade value and can be used as a decent bait for trapping a good center, obviously Fin doesn't have so much value and the Mavs don't have any interest in the expiring contracts the Spurs hold. Plus, Spurs just signed gooden with minimum level exception late in the regular season after dude got waived from Kings, say, Spurms didn't have any exception like bird rights to give gooden a bigger offer than what dude would probably receive from any other team this summer. Gooden became a full free agent right after his minimum contract expires from Spurs team, Spurs didn't have any preferance over any other team in signing gooden, then how can you use him as a trading asset for Smokey Howard? You are a noob, stop embarrassing your own team already, please.

As opposed to Gooden, who was distracted by something shiny during the directions, took a wrong turn, and wound up at the bottom of the cliff all by himself.

Yup, it's true that some players like Camby and Dice has been seeming to be relatively healthy in recent years compared to their early years when injuries were usual elements on their diet. But I doubt Dice would be much greater than Gooden next season even if he stayed healthy through the whole year, and the Spurs would definitely suffer much more if Dice sucks or gets injury for some reason. Gooden will be Dirk's backup, behind him there also stands several other decent power forwards like Singleton, but the Spurs would have to move Bonner back to the starting 5 when Dice isn't available for games.
