Just read that on his Twitter. If Pop felt Gooden wasnt an important asset to the team then im going to have to back Coach Pops' Genius
Well Cuban finally signed his bald-headed Big..LOL.. seriously thoug, I wish Gooden the best and hope that Cuban is overpaying him.
Thank you!
Finally someone said it: the '09-10 team is ALREADY better than the '08-09 team.
They may not win a ring this year, but they're gonna be ing fun to watch every game of the entire season and post-season. And Gooden wasn't in the plans to be on the roster, anyway, because they're bringing in new talent and paying hefty for it. If we signed Gooden now, he'd cost twice as much in taxes. The plan -- it seems to me -- was to go all-out in Duncan's last few years. But why pay $11 mil/season for an offensive-minded PF while we need defense, blocks and rebounding when you can get a guy for the rookie's salary who rebounds and plays defense?
How long did it really take? A week? Two? That's the one thing about the Gooden episode that I find really disturbing, because I remember all the comments at the time they signed him. There shouldn't have been any surprises about who he was, before or after he came here. If R.C. and Pop were that badly fooled, it was a monumental screw-up.
Remember this story?
Popovich spoke at length with Gooden during the courtship process that followed his release by the Kings.
“Pop and Drew had some great conversations through this whole process, from both perspectives,” Buford said. “The feedback I got is that they both felt really comfortable with each other.”
Popovich told Gooden the Spurs not only wanted him on their roster, they needed him to have their best shot at winning another championship.
“It was knowing there is want for me here,” Gooden said of his talks with his new head coach. “Not just ‘We’re glad you’re here.’ It was more like, ‘We need you here, and not just for this season.’
“Hearing that was something I was looking for. It wasn’t just, ‘Help us try to win a championship this year and then we’ll see what happens in the summer.’”
What? It was a ZERO risk maneuver, it's not like we chose him over Chris Bosh.
It didn't work out, a lot of us didn't think it was going to. But it didn't cost the Spurs anything (outside of Holt's pocketbook) - so it's hardly a monumental screw-up.
Gooden didn't fit the model here but I think it's a decent signing for the Mavs - nobody expects Gooden to be the next Hakeem Olajuwon. Not sure why all the angst between a few butt-hurt Spurs fans (who probably have no clue why they are butt-hurt in the first place) and the Mav fan contingent, but as d228 said, you expect nothing else when something comes up that concerns both teams.
hahaha

Dallas enjoy our leftovers![]()
I'm actually scared of this move...![]()
Good riddance, no pun intended!

Why??? gooden Plays Defense Like Dirk....... Duncan Scorched Gooden in 2007 when he was on the Cavs..... he will Do it again........
But because Orlando F#cked us on the Gortat deal, we had to have a back up center so Gooden is it. He can play back up center and PF. Not bad for 4.5 mllion vs. what Bass got in Orlando. Upgrade? not really. But we needed a back up center.
Unless you're into that whole defense thing.
Gooden is an upgrade over Bass. Now, your Center situation is ed upbut Gooden might be able to play a little Center. He doesn't have the defense to be a starter at Center, though.
