    Best places:

    1. Eagle Pass, TX -- every time I go to Eagle Pass, I am impressed by the cleanliness of the city, the large numbers of educated, professional people, and the public infrastrcture, Teutonic in its efficiency. Eagle Pass is really poised to continue as one of America's economic and cultural shooting stars.

    2. Andrews, TX -- few places in America can compete with the breathtaking scenery of Andrews. Verdant forests serve as the opening act to breathtaking mountains in the distance. Everyone you meet is so friendly, vibrant, and alive --- Andrews has a bright future.

    3. Lagos, Nigeria -- the Paris of Africa. Nuff said.

    4. Camden, NJ -- the tech hub of the northeast. Glistening new office towers portend the boundless optimism found in this potent economic engine. Also a great place for families.

    5. East St. Louis, IL -- one of America's architectural treasures. Row after row of pristinely kept-up turn-of-the-century homes. A bustling boutique downtown lined with trees. People are about the friendliest I've ever encountered.
Is that last one a joke, or have I slipped into Bizarro world? The East StL I remember was a burn out abandoned husk in the same league as Watts. My dad always took the two lane highway from our Illinois town to StL, but he made sure that before he got to East StL, we were on the damn freeway and driving over it and not through it. Granted, that was 40 years ago, but I don't see Watts or Detroit making this kind of comeback, and they all burned/rioted about the same time.

In reality, East St. Louis lies in ruins. The downtown buildings are skeletons, their facades collapsed, with trees going out of the roofs. Abandoned factories have rusted in place for half a century. The first thing a black person in East St. Louis does when they find a job is move out of there, up over the bluffs. Any outsider who doesn't want to die knows to be out of there before 4 PM. During mid-day you won't get killed because nobody is awake, but the only thing to do is gawk at what looks like a war zone.

I'm just curious why only that one city caught your attention. Did you really think Lagos was the Paris of Africa?

THe Lagos one caught my attention, but I have no personal experience with it, and have never been there. Not the case with East StL.

    Bravo.

I enjoyed my time in Bend. We stayed at an inn right on the river, and I got up early and hiked up a mountain right next to Mt. Bachelor. The payoff was a great view of the Sisters.

Plus there's this breakfast place that has like ten kinds of Eggs Benedict.

    Overall, . I recommend.

I've enjoyed my time thus far in Redondo Beach and the surrounding beach areas of LA. I got reminded just how beautiful the weather and scenery was here when my my family from Texas came to visit recently and couldn't stop raving about it...saying my wife and I live in a vacation home (six blocks to the pier/beach).

It's definitely more expensive to live out here and the people aren't as nice in general (like they're too busy with their own lives to inconvenience themselves with you)...but as for the year-round weather and scenery, it's hard to beat.

I'd love to live in Fresno. You're like 40 miles from three of the most spectacular parks in the world.

.. and I'd drive the Kings Canyon scenic byway at least once a month if I lived out there...

    Currently, London England.
Istanbul, Turkey is a close second.

I want to visit Bled, Slovenia and some other places in Europe and when I do I might have a new favorite.
Living only 30 mins away from Bled. Not the most beautiful City but a lot of fun especially the casino is great.

For best city I'd take Florence as well, beautiful city, exciting nightlife and many hot tourist chicks.

Close second is Dublin... would be first if there wouldn't be that stupid drive on the left side rule.

I lived in Germany for about a year and a half right after i graduated highschool. It is one of the cleanest countries i have been in, at least the southwest area is. Beautiful landscapes, awesome roads, quaint cities and villages. It is a country i loved to drive in...just so much to see.
I lived in the Stuttgart area myself for six years. If their politics and tax structure was different, I might consider moving there myself.

Oh wait... We are heading for socialism here. Maybe Germany would be a good place to relocate...

    Beautiful scenery tlong!
I agree. The Pacific North West is probably the most beautiful and diverse place in the USA.

Funny. I've never been to Bend, but lived in The Dalles for eight years.

The pictures there are of Crater Lake. That's about 90 miles south of Bend.
I was thinking the one with the Hot Air Balloons might be Tigard. They have a large annual event there.
