So you all think it will be Blair OR Mahinmi ??!!

No chances they both make the team?
It's not about making the team, it's about getting playing time.

When asked about his situation at the start of the training camp, Ian said:
"I'm fine even if I need to get my rhythm back on the offensive end. There are a lot of bigmen on the roster but I'm confident. It will be between Blair and me. He is always on the court at the right place at the right time, it's crazy."

ummm...so has nobody told tony that Blair has no ACL's??

Ok, but how long did he play without those ACLs?
and howmany trainings did he missed during that same span?

Even if it was a risk for the lotery, howmany team could have took him with "limited" risk, like we did?
    I mean 37th ?????!!!!!!! THAT'S AN INSANE!!

My hope is that Ian and Blair can play together. Ian and Blair could potentially compliment each other very well.

Ok for the rhythm, but his defensice end worries me more than his Off one...

I think there will be playing time for all the bigs because Duncan and Dyess will sit out most or all back to backs. Since there are 17 b2b's, that is 34 potential games if they rest Duncan and Dyess on alternate nights. Throw in a couple more games because of injuries etc. and Mahinmi could get 45 games even if he doesn't make the 12 man active roster.

    I agree,
but I'm afraid 2 "rookies" bigs (Ian cn be counted as one! lol) is one too much on any nba team (exept garbage time)
You need at least 1 exp player at the post...

The second time I've noticed you leave Ratliff out of the equation of Post players. Ratliff will be there in the 12-man rotation. The only other legit shot-blockers besides Duncan are Ratliff and Ian. I don't think the Spurs have the luxury of keeping both, unless Bonner is traded or Ratliff gets injured. I do think Bonner is being showcased and shopped but there may not be anything decent in return.
Well, if Ian plays well enough, I think Ratliff won't be on the active roster. Ratliff will be in that case a great insurance. If Ian can't get playing time over Ratliff, he is done as a Spur.
I'm not sure Spurs are showcasing Bonner. Having a PF/C bench filled with unproven players and a 37 years old injury prone Ratliff is quite a risk.

Haislip is another Big that will either be waived or sit behind the bench as injury protection or as single-game matchup plug-in. No one has been able to refute my initial su ion that Marcus has a make-good sentence in his (partially?) guaranteed contract. It would be nice to see how Marcus defends someone with major talent, like a Dirk Nowitzki or Lamar Odom....or even an Al Thornton or Blake Griffin this Wednesday. Marcus hasn't stood out defensively, thusfar, and may not be around much longer unless he does show something defensively.
Hailsip contract is fully guaranteed for this year.
I'm like you a little lost with what to expect from him.

Thanks for clarifying, I was pretty sure that Haislip was fully guaranteed. Which makes you scratch your head a little at what the Spurs were expecting to invest in him so much considering the LT.

Bonner has to stay at this point. If Haislip was working out and showing the ability to hit the 3 consistently along with adequately defend, Bonner could be moved. But he has not and I have serious concerns that he will not.

Spurs are counting on having a role for Ratliff. Ratliff will be on the active roster unless he's injured.

because he obviously wants Ian to make the team, he's just politican
exactly. My name is Interrohater for a reason, it's my job to read into what people say and he's obviously politicking for Ian to stay. I'm not saying that Ian needs it, or is in trouble, or will be gone soon. I'm just making an observation.

Well, you can also say that Spurs are counting on having a role for Haislip and that he will be on the active roster.

Even if Ratliff isn't on the active roster, he will have a role as insurance. He could be activated if one of the young bigman sucks in playoffs, if there is an injury or in some matchups.

I don't see the point of Haislip at all TBH..the only thing that he potentially gave this team was a guy that could stretch the floor WITH some athleticism and better D than Bonner..it sounds ideal..however, his defense has looked a lot worse than Bonner's from what we've seen so far..if he isn't a significant defensive upgrade over Bonner, then his spot is pointless, since Matt is levels above him as a 3-point shooter..

Credible source tells me otherwise but a lot can change during the course of the year.

Haislip was more of a low risk high reward gamble that could fit the mold of the Derrick McKey type player Pop has coveted for quite sometime. Even though they make the same amount of money, the reasons for Ratliff and Haislip's acquisitions were entirely different.

They brought Ratliff in for a limited role off the bench to give them length to defend the rim in spurts and to also disrupt and defend teams with length in the middle ( Lakers/ Blazers/ Celtics/Magic( Howard)/ Cavs). He will be on the active roster unless he's hurt.

They brought Haislip in as more of a gamble. So far the gamble doesn't look promising. Haislip hasn't shown that he's able to put the ball on the floor effectively and hasn't showed the ability to knock down shots from the perimeter with consistency. His defense has been subpar and his passive approach during the course of games will be a reason why he will be on the inactive list for the majority of the year. He really needs to show something these last games of pre-season.

I think Ratliff will end up being used alot like Kevin Willis was when he was playing here.
