My hope is that Ian and Blair can play together. Ian and Blair could potentially compliment each other very well.

I think there will be playing time for all the bigs because Duncan and Dyess will sit out most or all back to backs. Since there are 17 b2b's, that is 34 potential games if they rest Duncan and Dyess on alternate nights. Throw in a couple more games because of injuries etc. and Mahinmi could get 45 games even if he doesn't make the 12 man active roster.

Well, if Ian plays well enough, I think Ratliff won't be on the active roster. Ratliff will be in that case a great insurance. If Ian can't get playing time over Ratliff, he is done as a Spur.
I'm not sure Spurs are showcasing Bonner. Having a PF/C bench filled with unproven players and a 37 years old injury prone Ratliff is quite a risk.
Hailsip contract is fully guaranteed for this year.

Thanks for clarifying, I was pretty sure that Haislip was fully guaranteed. Which makes you scratch your head a little at what the Spurs were expecting to invest in him so much considering the LT.
Bonner has to stay at this point. If Haislip was working out and showing the ability to hit the 3 consistently along with adequately defend, Bonner could be moved. But he has not and I have serious concerns that he will not.

exactly. My name is Interrohater for a reason, it's my job to read into what people say and he's obviously politicking for Ian to stay. I'm not saying that Ian needs it, or is in trouble, or will be gone soon. I'm just making an observation.

Even if Ratliff isn't on the active roster, he will have a role as insurance. He could be activated if one of the young bigman sucks in playoffs, if there is an injury or in some matchups.
I don't see the point of Haislip at all TBH..the only thing that he potentially gave this team was a guy that could stretch the floor WITH some athleticism and better D than Bonner..it sounds ideal..however, his defense has looked a lot worse than Bonner's from what we've seen so far..if he isn't a significant defensive upgrade over Bonner, then his spot is pointless, since Matt is levels above him as a 3-point shooter..
Credible source tells me otherwise but a lot can change during the course of the year.
Haislip was more of a low risk high reward gamble that could fit the mold of the Derrick McKey type player Pop has coveted for quite sometime. Even though they make the same amount of money, the reasons for Ratliff and Haislip's acquisitions were entirely different.
They brought Ratliff in for a limited role off the bench to give them length to defend the rim in spurts and to also disrupt and defend teams with length in the middle ( Lakers/ Blazers/ Celtics/Magic( Howard)/ Cavs). He will be on the active roster unless he's hurt.
They brought Haislip in as more of a gamble. So far the gamble doesn't look promising. Haislip hasn't shown that he's able to put the ball on the floor effectively and hasn't showed the ability to knock down shots from the perimeter with consistency. His defense has been subpar and his passive approach during the course of games will be a reason why he will be on the inactive list for the majority of the year. He really needs to show something these last games of pre-season.

I think Ratliff will end up being used alot like Kevin Willis was when he was playing here.
