Forbes: Shawn Johnson is most-liked sports figure in U.S.
Register staff report
Forbes.com reported that Iowa gymnast Shawn Johnson is the most liked sports figure in America — topping star-powered giants like golfer Tiger Woods, basketball player Tim Duncan and tennis sensation Rafael Nadal.
The poll, Forbes said, was produced by E-Poll Market research, “an Encino, Calif.-based research firm that tracks celebrity likability ratings.”
The survey included 1,100 people 13 years old and over, and “candidates were limited to active athletes, coaches or commentators with a minimum 10 percent awareness rating.”

1. Shawn Johnson
Gymnastics
Percentage Like: 75%
People see her as: Cute, charming, warm
What's not to like? A teen gymnast who took Olympic gold (plus three silvers) in Beijing a year ago, Johnson has continued to wow the public this year with an ESPY award from ESPN for best female U.S. Olympian while scoring endorsement deals with McDonald's and Secret deodorant, among others. Her myriad TV appearances in 2009 included award presentations at the CMT Music Award and Teen Choice Award, plus a first-place finish on ABC's Dancing With the Stars.
2. Larry Fitzgerald
Football
Percent Like: 71%
People see him as: Versatile, exciting, dynamic
American finally discovered the spectacular Arizona Cardinals wide receiver when his usually mediocre team wound up in the Super Bowl last February. Fitzgerald caught two touchdown passes in the big game (a tight 27-23 loss to the Steelers), leading to a cover gig on the Madden 2010 video game.
3. Kurt Warner
Football
Percent Like: 69%
People see him as: Trustworthy, down to earth, experienced
The guy who throws Fitzgerald the passes got a lift from the Super Bowl too. The Arizona Cardinals QB is a hit with fans who appreciate his rise to s om the hard way, from a life of grocery bagging and Arena Football to the NFL. Warner got more acclaim than he did for his two previous Super Bowl appearances with the Rams--when you battle back at age 37 to take the starting job from a young stud draft pick (Matt Leinert out of USC), people can relate.
4. Rafael Nadal
Tennis
Percent Like: 68%
People see him as: Exciting, handsome, emotional
The 23-year-old Spaniard, who's already got six Grand Slam les and an Olympic gold medal under his belt, has recently vaulted into the limelight on the back of a growing rivalry with Roger Federer.
5. Steve Young
Football/Media
Percent Like: 67%
People see him as: Trustworthy, intelligent, sincere
Fans take to the easygoing manner of the former QB-turned-commentator. The squeaky clean Young is the great-great-great grandson of former Latter Day Saints leader Brigham Young, whose namesake college he attended.
6. Robin Roberts
Basketball/Media
Percent Like: 67%
People see her as: Classy, intelligent, trustworthy
A former college hoops star at Southeastern Louisiana, Roberts earned three Emmy Awards as a sportscaster at ESPN. She's also contributed to ABC's Good Morning America for many years, the last four as an anchor. Smooth, confident and likable, she's a hit with viewers.
7. Chris Paul
Basketball
Percent Like: 66%
People see him as: Exciting, versatile, good energy
The fifth-year superstar is one of the NBA's best players on the court and most likeable and grounded off it. Paul's endorsement potential could skyrocket if he skipped out of New Orleans for a big market.
8. Tiger Woods
Golf
Percent Like: 65%
People see him as: Influential, over-exposed, classy
Already a living legend recognized by over 80% of the public, Tiger is sports' top-earning athlete. No doubt the overexposure keeps his likability rating from reaching even higher.
9. Ty Murray
Bull Riding
Percent Like: 65%
People see him as: Charming, sincere
A nine-time rodeo champ who's appeared on numerous reality TV series, including Ty Murray's Celebrity Bull Riding Challenge on CMT.
10. Tim Duncan

Percent Like: 64%
People see him as: Approachable, intelligent, trustworthy
The quiet superstar and leader of four San Antonio Spurs NBA les stands out against a loud backdrop of egos and bling.

pretty random..I hate that Chris Paul is on the list though..who the likes Chris Paul?..
Sadly, the fact that Chris Paul is on the list negates any validity to this list.
I don't like Chris Paul.
why do people think tim duncan is approachable? he seems to me the "you mind your business and ill mind mine" type/
I'm a Wake Forest alum, and I can't stand Chris Paul.
The minute that kid stepped in the NBA, his sense of en lement kicked in on the level of a K. Bryant. Why, I have no idea. Now he's completely incorrigible.
Exactly what I was thinking, Paul is a completely unlikable D-bag.... not the greatest list anyway tho. I can see Shawn Johnson and Fitz bein high. Tiger should be higher, but a lot of people do jealously hate on him. Same with Timmy. I like Federer much more than Nadal. No need for Robin Roberts... Steve Young is ok, but what about Favre or Manning? I personally know a few people who can't stand Kurt Warner, but I think they hate his wife more than they hate him. And Ty Murray is random, but ok with me.
That's all? All the comments he made for everyone else and Tim's is one sentence?
Like the guy was looking at the list and saw Tim and was WTF!! um ok what can I write, I know.....
I like Chris Paul. He's one of the most exciting point guards I have ever seen. Putting on a Hornets game is like going back in a time warp and seeing Isiah.
Chris Paul ahead of Tim Duncan as a PERSON on that list is complete TRASH. Paul may be a pretty explosive point-guard but at the same time comes off as an arrogant prick/ , while TD is one of the nicest athletes in professional sports. What a crock...
I respect CP3's game, but I think he's a whiny little that tries to make a foul call out of anything. Seriously, who else flops on the offense?
I think Chris Paul is a really great player, but I don't like him.
Chris Paul as the Kanye West of the NBA... beautiful...
Ditto. There's just something about the little brat, that I can't stand.
i expected forbes rich list lmao...duncan on t hat list would wtf ftwbbq
"I am flat out fed up. Yes, if they will not do these other things, then I say shoot them as they cross. I would go and take my rifle if it was legal to shoot them."
What a terrible comment.
Bull ing that Peyton Manning doesn't make this list

Chris Paul likes Chris Paul.
I agree with you on the Nadal thing. I mean he's humble and nice off the court but his on-court demeanor kinda irks some people even though he's a genuinely nice guy. I think Federer is more liked than him cos he's not like most superstar athletes who think the world owes them what not. I actually checked in facebook the Federer and Nadal haters pages, there are actually more Nadal haters there. I mean yeah it's facebook but it still is a reflection of the reality in a sense.
Love Woods incredible game but he is simply is by all accounts a foul mouthed and very arrogant figure and just cannot make out the love for him. He does seem to be trying to be more more approachable etc. but golf experts say that is a work in progress. Guess money, a nice smile and a hot wife is enough.
Peyton Manning is a *&$hole by the way and when he wins mulitple championships (or Paul even wins one) they should even be considered for the list but except for a rare event Peyton is one of the biggest all time chokers and his strange gyrations at the line of scrimmage and his arrogance should put him not in the top 100 even.
Agreed, But That List Is saying That Chris Paul Is Better then Tim Duncan??? No!!!
Thats Like saying Isiah Thomas is a Better Coach Then Pop, Just aint right....
Petty hater forum. All this hate for Chris Paul is pathetic. If you guys cared about any of that , you wouldnt be cheering for Tony Parker who is much more arrogant than Chris Paul. The real problem you have with Paul is that he wears the wrong jersey.
You can't see why people wouldn't think highly of Favre?
I've hated Chris Paul ever since his nut-punching, "who me?" Wake days.
Actually, the problem I have with CP3 is that if anyone passes within 10 feet of him, either on offense or defense, and generates a mild breeze, he falls down as if poleaxed.
