Can they really afford the dead money cap hit if they cut a dude they just resigned for 5 years? If they had a competent coaching staff, they could couch him up and see if he can learn to run a route.
no..they can't afford it. And yes, our coaching staff is incompetent except for one or two of them..but I don't even know if he can be coached at this point when it comes to running routes. He's so far off, it'd be like trying to TEACH Shaq to shoot free throws.

He could be coached...but would he listen?

Personally I would bring in Michael Irvin to coach him one on one...anytime Roy dogged it or talked back, Playmaker could point to his rings or his HOF jacket.

I love how ESPN failed to mention this quote..

"If you continue to work out every day, it'll pay off," Williams said. "It'll pay off one of these 16 games."

Doesn't sound as pissed off in this quote as he did the rest of the McMahon story. Same interview, picked up by the Dallas Morning News.
Thanks for that update, I was about to say Williams needs to talk less and run better, but at least now I know he's trying not to sound like a total Debbie Downer. I wonder how much else ESPN edits quotes to create news stories.....

This is what I'm talking about. I've been wishing Dallas would bring Irvin in to coach the WRs for years now.

constantly...they're about the ratings. I firmly believe that the TO situation could have been squashed if it weren't for ESPN.

I like how Cowboys fans cry about ESPN and how they are always causing drama but then talk about how "relevant" the Cowboys are because they are always on ESPN.

Actually, we say the Cowboys are relevant because people who hate them keep talking about them...such as yourself. Explain why ESPN didn't post the entire interview that THEY took, and only left out the pieces that didn't make Roy look like a tool? The only parts they posted online were about him being angry and not complacent.

Never said that, y..I said it could have been squashed. It was an interior thing that may have been something they could have handled had ESPN not taken it to the national level.

I wish we could get Ogletree more playing time. That man seems like he can play.
    Same with Sam Hurd.

Too bad we got Roy eating up all the snaps. Guess he has to start playing better eventually.

Roy has a lot of raw talent..the problem is he sucks balls at running routes.
+1. Listen to Troy Aikman's commentary when you get the chance and you'll hear him say subtle things that reveal he's not at all a fan of Roy Williams (he preferred Owens). He's even publicly stated that Roy was never taught how to run proper routes and it could end up being one of the worst trades in a long time.

Roy was a man amongst boys at Texas and always relied on his size and athleticism to get it done. On the bright side, I don't find it a coincidence that other Cowboy receivers are getting open while he is not. He's always paid a lot of attention by opposing defenses. Hence Miles Austin's recent success.

roy williams would not even be able to get a 6th round pick in a trade made today. how sad is that. waive his ass in the summer and give the younger receivers the baton.
Can't waive him, nor is that a good idea. I do agree with you on the younger receivers, though. I would take Austin and Hurd over Crayton and Williams. I think Dallas should seriously consider taking Jordan Shipley in the '10 draft.

Exactly...it was the same as the TO situation..people pay so much attention to one guy, and another is going to be wide open. Now that people are realizing you need to cover Miles, Roy might have a better shot..we'll see what happens in Philly.

Could you imagine if we got Shipley and then picked up McCoy for the future? Kitna's obviously not our future, and McGee seems a bit timid. The connection these two guys have is epic.

I love Colt and his game, just not sure how well he will translate to the NFL. Mel Kiper, Jr. always make comparisons to Drew Brees, but that seems a bit of a stretch to me. He's smart and accurate, though...he may be able to find his niche on the next level. I think Shipley will be Wes Welker 2.0, though. I would pick him up for his return ability alone.

I agree..but I think that if somehow Shipley ended up on the same team as McCoy it would be one of a good way to integrate him into the system. These guys have an uncanny connection, and it could make Colt one of an NFL QB.

I definitely would not be upset if the Cowboys used a draft pick on Colt... , they wasted a perfectly good 4th rounder on Stephen McGee last year. The Aggies ruined that guy by putting him in a running offense.

I secretly hope that neither of them gets drafted by the Cowboys for the sake of their careers (at least not under Wade Phillips). Too much drama in Big D.

Definitely a safe bet. I was laughing out loud a couple of weeks ago when ESPN put "Jerry Jones will not fire Wade Phillips during the season" across the ticker.

The only thing is...who would want to work for Jerry? He wants to be the owner, the coach, publicist, hot dog vendor, etc. The Cowboys have a lot of problems (mainly discipline) and I can't see anyone with legit experience wanting to coach the Cowboys. Watch Jason Garrett get promoted....

I think that is the most likely of scenarios. Jones loves yes men and Garrett is one of them. I really don't see any of the prestigious coaches out there wanting to work for Jerry Jones.

Shanahan and Holmgren have both expressed interest...Jerry and Holmgren get along well, though I hope it ends up being Shanahan.

I completely agree with you and wouldn't be surprised one bit. Let the mediocrity continue...

I get giddy when I hear the Bill Cowher rumors. He'd make Jerry pee his pants, though. I don't find it surprising that they didn't even bring in Mike Singletary for an interview before hiring Wade Phillips. He's straight OG and commands the respect of those around him.

I would have loved Singletary, but who knew what he would have been able to do at the time. Cowher is the one I really want...I just don't see it happening, so I didn't mention it.

Cowher's family has a house in Carolina and he graduated college at NC State. I think he will be Carolina bound after this season.

Very possible. He's mentioned Carolina as an option pretty recently. Love to see him in Dallas, just don't see it happening. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think Shanahan would be a perfect fit, and there's those saying the reason he hasn't interviewed for any positions is because he wants to coach in Dallas...same thing with Holmgren.
