So I guess the theory that Pop was saving Ratliff for this game is wrong..
See above. I don't think the game one beat-down of NO helped the fandom... the team looked like it was january, not October. Now they look firmly in October form.
I think this team suffers from one of the same problems we had last year - we have players for all situations, but those same players only function well in limited situations ie. our players are too one-dimensional. Eg if we could combine Theo with Dice or Blair we'd have exactly what we need from our other big, or if we could combine Bogans with RJ or Mase that would make a much more suitable starting SF.
Unfortunately, in the real world, you can't just mash two players together to make up for each other's shortcomings!![]()

After 2003 the Spurs have never been anti small ball.
I'm with you. I was actually thinking the same thing. At least Jax has a pair. Several guys on this team look timid and afraid.
He's pretty much pestering Roy *before* he gets into position. The problem with RJ, is that he gives Roy enough space to get the pass..
That's one added dimension Malik has. He will help pull down rebounds.
These are the kind of games that make me want to go out and play basketball.
Surely I could drain a hoop better than these guys...
Why are guys asking for more trades? You bring in a new player it's just going to make the problem worse. We already changed half of the roster.
Apparently.![]()
You can't make a trade in March. I'd rather not wait until then. Come on man, please take the homer glasses off for a little bit.
I do agree with what you are saying in that we're all jumping the gun a little, but waiting until March is a bit much.
As painful as this is, we knew that it would take time for this team to gel. Even then, we knew it would be a long shot for this team to win it all. There was absolutely no room for error and there are a lot of questions to be answered.
The fact they are losing in embarrassing fashion does not change the fact that we knew it would probably be a rocky start. Still have to give it time in order to get a clearer picture.
I don't think seeing Theo Ratliff on Rudy Fernandez or his like would be a good idea.
If Hairston had been activated small ball would've been perfect for the lineups they were throwing out there against the Spurs.
McDyess looks just putrid BUT someone I think TIMVP or someone else mentioned he has a history of starting out slow so I'm gonna give the Tide guy a break.
Blair, damn, dude is a beast on the boards but, he's sp putrid on defense its killing Pop to have him out there. Pop put him in VERY early tonight and he was just so bad defensively he had to take him out. I pray he advances on D a LITTLE more, cause if he doesn't he's not gonna get minutes.
maybe he can watch film and see what he did to make a shot
We don't have the ammo to be an elite defensive team anymore, and elite defense was Pop's vision for the team. I don't know what he's doing now.
Both those experiements were colossal failures last year. The idea was to get better and more improved over the summer. Even when Pop gets desparate enough to change his lineup, he keeps reverting back to failed combinations and then seems surprised by the results.
These are the kind of games that make me want to go to bed.......These guys arent worth staying up till midnight for.....?

Yeah, I was just dreaming.
This team will be fine, it's just disturbing to see them gel so well in the first game, then regress to pre-season form. As long as we've seen decent improvement by mid-January I won't worry. We need to be at 85% by the ASB, then take it from there, just like 03-05-07.![]()
This is pretty much how I feel right now.
What the is up with the messed up lineups Pop!
That's one of the main reasons I want Jax. He's always tough and never timid or afraid.
He might be silly or sulk, but he always brings that at ude. The contract is killer though.
Maybe TP can watch Manu and learn how to stay healthy.
There are no more trades.
Period.
No one out there thats available or will be available will be significant help. Period.
Pop should start Ian for a couple of games and then the spurs would know what they truly have in him.
I love how on the end of those ESPN halftime shows, when they say go to ESPN dot com and you see the fake web page, you can see the poll on the right say something like "Will the Spurs repeat as champions this season? Yes/No"
Or Tim and mcDyess.
But please not more Duncan and four guards-small forwards around him (and that's include Bonner).Duncan is not in his prime and he can't do all.
And it will be nice if TD is not who has to guard Oden or Aldridge every play.Maybe then he could be fresh to score.
They'd learn they have nothing really quick.
