Rockets struggled during the start of the 94-95 season, finished with only 47 wins, 11 fewer than the previous year, finished 6th in the west, came back from 2-0 and 3-1 deficit in rounds 1 and 2, and... won the NBA le, making Shaq, Penny, and Nick Anderson look like chumps in a straight sweep of Orlando.
Before you ticky-tacky all the minute differences between the modern Spurs and the historic Rockets, I acknowledge no end of differences, but only point to the possibility as analogous, and the example as informative.
No doubt, could we look at the archives of rocketstalk.com, the December posters there cried and lamented the end of the Rockets era, the decline of Olajuwon, the unfathomably horrible coaching of Rudy T, the selfishness of Cassel, and the need to cut and trade everyone; and yet, the Rockets won it all that year.
