There are plenty of teams that have had dry spells and stayed in the same city throughout the dry spell until the team was a contender again. The Spurs have been in San Antonio for over 30 years and the fans supported them even when they didn't have the success that we're seeing during the current era, and it's not like the Spurs are the only example of this: look at the 49ers. They've been relatively unsuccessful since the mid '90s (they were a decent team going into the early '00s, but they weren't perrennial Super Bowl contenders), but they've stayed in San Francisco.
