Here's a good reason (to me) to fire him. First quarter, you have momentum, you get a 4th and 1 at the 32, you are moving the ball at will and are establishing some rhythm, yet the coach sends in an unproven kicker to try a 49 yard field goal. He misses and you lose the points and the field position battle.
you know the reason why he didn't go for it on 4th and 1? Because he said it wasn't. No lie. He said it in his PC. That made me angry. The Ticket played it earlier today and all I did was laugh.

The problem as was stated before is that the Cowboys have the talent, just have no mental toughness or discipline as a ball club. Tony Romo..a goat. Proving time and time again that the big game is just not for him..he collapses.
He's performed well in big games this year. He was not the problem yesterday. His inconsistent coordinator and his terrible line protecting him let him down.

Hire Cowher, make Phillips the DC, and fire Garret
If you dictate who the assistants are to the head coach, you're completely undermining the head coach - who will probably want his staff. It's the exact same issue there was when Garrett was hired before Phillips.

Jones is the head coach - like it or not. Wade can have the le, but he doesn't call shots. He can't discipline the players without running it through Jerry. He doesn't have final say in personnel. He's a defensive coordinator with a hefty salary and a fake le. And any "head coach" who is brought in here will deal with the exact same thing.

The Cowboys are handcuffed until Jerry dies.

Cowboys Likely To Give Wade Phillips A Contract Extension
    Yes, please God.

yet the coach sends in an unproven kicker to try a 49 yard field goal.

That's actually a better reason to fire him than the fact that he didn't go for it. That kind of refusal to step up and take responsibility is why I didn't like him when he was the coach in Buffalo or Denver. It's a very gutless Dave Campo thing to do.

I'm hearing 3 yr extension going through 2012. Great. We're ed.

I like the guy as a D coordinator but without discipline we'll be in the same spot next year getting canned by a better coached, more disciplined and motivated team in the divisional round at best.

If you all agree that he is a great DC, and we know for a fact that your defense dominated the last few weeks and also kept you in the game against the vikes; it's your offense that did you in. And you all seem to say that he has no oversight on that side of the ball.
Maybe by giving him an extension, Jerry is telling everybody in that lockeroom (especially Garrett) that Wade is THE MAN.
Maybe Wade promised him that if he's given respect (keep in mind Jason Garett makes more than him) the entire football team will perform better.

Jerry needs another good yes man in the FO. I heard Vinny Cerrato is available.

I thought all these claims of undisciplined and unmotivated would die this year, especially after the team showed that they really tried and wanted to win every game. They were never unprepared for a game, and they certainly weren't undisciplined, not in the way the 95 cowboys were undisciplined. Not in the slightest. They had some penalties, but they seemed like penalties that were brought on by trying too hard rather than not trying at all. Wade's got this country bumpkin disposition that makes him easy to hate. There's no evidence that the team wasn't motivated, or undisciplined, but the coach is nearly spherical and looks like a dope and so he therefore must be doing a bad job.

You want some empirical evidence that Wade is a soft-ass? It doesn't work like that. Perception is reality. Not one person ever wondered who was calling the shots under Parcells. Those players don't fear Wade, they fear Jerry.

In the Vikings game....they faced adversity for the first time in a month and cratered. That is a reflection of the coaching staff.

I dont think it's about that one game. The Cowboys had to beat the Eagles three times over the course of the season, and they did so decisively.

My problem is the inconsistency. The inability to take it to a new level and keep it there. He's not getting the most out of the players he's been given.

The Vikings game was one example...I agree with you though, the inconsistency is worse.

I don't know how much Wade is to blame for the O-Line sucking balls vs. the Vikings. Garrett needs to be held accountable for something at some point by JJ. The line's inconsistency has been maddening since Sparano left.

They said Jerry Jones did it just in case there is a lockout in the NFL. Also that Phillips did a good job this year in getting them the division and a playoff win.

Having Jerry finally show a united front with the coaching staff by getting rid of Adam Jones and TO helped locker room chemistry a lot this year. It's possible that with a more drama-free environment Wade will be adequate because all he has to do is run the defense and not make re ed decisions.

jerry's best shot at a superbowl in his stadium next year is to retain wade.

the extra year is like a bonus for a job well done this year and to not have a lame duck coach next year in appearance.

although, if you get blown out in the playoffs again, i don't think there is any doubt that jones gets your new coach year after next...

And it looks like Bill Cowher is willing to take CBS' money for one more year while he waits for Jerry to make a decision on Wade.

Cowher is just waiting for Carolina to open up...wants to be with his family.

Fox making the playoffs next year is the only thing that will throw a wrench in that...
