why didnt it end in 07 or 08?
Based on the load he's carried over the years and his injury situation, I thought Duncan might be the first to fade. But sadly, were facing the inevitable decline with a pretty much intact Duncan.
If that's not heartbreaking I don't know what is. Who'd have thunk it?
It's a complex situation, but the two biggies that immediately spring to my mind are the Scola disaster and Manu & TP's NT fiascos. Those are the two biggest factors in turning the page on the championship era IMO.
why didnt it end in 07 or 08?
08 - the team managed to make the conference finals and had a chance to win.
09 - the team clearly wasnt winning a le, but they still tried their best. Once Bruce left, the dynasty ended.
It has nothing to do with losing to the Rockets...ever heard the expression the straw that broke the camel's back? With each passing lost it becomes more and more clear that this team is finished as a contender. Not even when they're desperate (which they should have been, considering the importance of this home stand before going out on the road for an extended period and the fact that they have a disappointing record to begin with), not even when they're at home, not even when they're semi-rested, not even when they have their full compliment of players (minus Finley), not even then can they look like something resembling that of a contender, despite playing an undersized, average team?
I'm surprised at the inep ude of the Spurs... I thought they were a little overhyped in teh offseason but still a solid #2 behind the Lakers.
I have not given up on the Spurs Dynasty, I still believe...but I do think the Big 3 are finished. A change is going to come because a change needs to come.
They are bad, really bad........ They are still a playoff team, but no more than a first round exit to a higher seeded Lakers or Denver team (Maybe even Dallas too if they meet). If they face the #3 seed they might even get waxed.
It's only January...
Let the rebuild years begin![]()
They can't look to get a 25-30 point offensive game from either Manu or Tony on a consistent basis.
Duncan is still a heck of a player, but the Spurs as a team just can't D up anymore (this is a based on effort).
NBA basketball is a young man's game, and two of our top players are on the wrong side of 30. You can't cheat Father Time, and the Spurs are now officially a slightly above average team with no chance to be a factor in the playoffs. At best this team is a one and done playoff also ran.
I wish I could be more optimistic, but I just don't see this thing getting markedly better.
The Spurs should invest minutes in some of the younger, hungrier guys and jettison the high priced guys who don't have enough left in the tank.
I hate to be so down on this team, but the season is more than half over, and their play is getting progressively worse.
TP needs to shut it down (he won't). Manu is on his last legs - he can't bring it anymore. Color me depressed.
The Tony Parker of last year won so many games with his relentless offensive pressure on the opponents. He is a s of himself this year. He is still just 27 years old, so he may be able to recapture his game. On the other hand, he has so many miles on him he may be breaking down like Manu did.
I am really POd at the current state of the team. I know what a contender looks like, and this team is not a contender right now.

I agree withthe ROX fans come on how can you throw in the towell?
Pop threw out the soft card ... but Wait till he really lights in to 'em the Spurs will respond ...
Yall should of traded for SJAX ... I agree withthe guys that say he is WAYYYY better than RJ ...
With the improvement of some of the other WC teams, there are fewer cupcakes out there to get easy wins against. Memphis, OKC, Utah. These guys are punking the Spurs now.
It will be very difficult for the Spurs is something doesn't turn around very quickly.
killed by Pops affection for small ball.
if i am going to throw in the towel , i will say lets start by getting rid of the Coach !!!!![]()
It was a great run but, like they say, all good things must come to an end and we are now there. Kind of sad watching this Spurs group. There are local Junior High teams that look better than the Spurs. Especially that girls Junior High team form The Blessed Little Sisters of Mercy Catholic School. They are on wheels! They'd have a 20 point lead on this Spurs team by halftime!
spurs run is over, get ready for 10 yrs of not being relevant, maybe 12 yrs. The only negative on the run is not repeating, that's it.
It is just the 425th time that the end of Spurs has been declared.
Well, atleast the bandwagoners are gone now.
this is still a playoff team imho what seed and what happens in round 1 well just have to c
That"s all?
Oh!, you mean this season.
Got it!
They can't get stops anymore. When they resign to playing small ball the Spurs get manhandled down low when Timmy has to rotate to help. No one else left to guard the rim. The only thing that keeps this team in games is hustle. Everything has to be going for the Spurs for them to win. I remember the days when they could have bad shooting nights and still win. Those days are long gone. This team has to rely on their offense and that's not how Championship teams are made.
Anyways yeah good run. I will always root for the Spurs regardless of how poor they are playing (I just won't be in denial or delusional). A bit of luck and you never know they could at least make things interesting. It's not that they can't win games, they just hardly look like a team that could be considered a favorite this year.
