So consumption is taxed rather than property, or ac ulated wealth. Yet another flavor of the managed economy, the notion of experimenting with and adjusting behavior.

If any of these would be Austin Nero's really wanted to shake things up they'd actually advocate the reduction of the scale and scope of the state.

In any event, transplanted Californicators and others will likely give us a repeat of the Cali debacle in a couple decades.

Someone should not have to always own the state for their own private property. It is immoral. A person should not have to work their entire life and then retire and still owe money every year. What to change it to is a different story, but it needs to change.

Well, sure, but why the tax, or a tax of such magnitude that it matters? It's because the state is expected to do many things. And those things are more than just giving stuff to poor folk, as conservatives often postulate.

Yeah. There is no way the state of Texas should be funding a stadium in Arlington, for example.

Kinky is a chump. His shtick is getting old. I saw him on MSNBC a few months ago pretty much say whatever Obama wanted to do for health care was fine by him and Texas.

Medina The only one who would actually secede.

Hutch has resigned to finish her career in Washington by deciding not to go Rove on Perry...she's really run a poor campaign.....everytime Perry opens his mouth Hutch should jump on it...for instance, Perry's stand on kids staying in school as a prerequisite to getting a driver's license for those under 18...Kay should have been there deriding this as more Perry big government interfering with the rights of Texans...the 8% state unemployment as a failure of Perry leadership and job creation

    They're all politicians...or politician wannabe's.
You'd rather have one who doesn't want to be?

So they all have some sorta ego, or self esteem problem. Personality disorder's run amok in 95% of 'em.
You say that like it's a bad thing. It's not, necessarily.

Having said that they all suck...and they all DO suck, they all want power over your life...err..
    Hopefully, you want it too.

Having said that...We've done better than any other state in the country under Perry. About as good as you can hope for I guess. He's gotta stop with the toll road stuff, but other than that...well, Texas has been doing pretty good under Perry.

Rick Perry is such a piece of garbage

I want to vote for whoever has a chance at just getting his cracker ass out of the governor's mansion. He's the fakest conservative ever. Too bad no matter who ends up winning won't even make a big in difference.

I always thought Kay was a good speaker, but I haven't even heard any soundbytes of her telling us why she wants to be governor...it's all just generic perry smack.

Given Kay's support of the bailouts, trying to play the "big government" card on Perry would backfire on her horribly.

She also can't use the unemployment rate because all Perry has to do is point out that the 8% rate is still 2 full points below the national average.

    Kay is pretty much screwed.

Eliminate property tax: We must eliminate property tax in Texas. We can fund necessary government services more efficiently and fairly using a broader based sales tax. Eliminating property tax and deriving that revenue from a sales tax will mean a $3 billion increase in net personal income in Texas and will add 125,000-175,000 new jobs. [pdf]

    http://www.medinafortexas.com/issues.php
    This is my woman.
Eliminating property taxes is a good election talking point, but once people see how the sales tax would need to go up to 15% to compensate for the lost property tax revenue (as quoted in the report you linked to) the idea loses a lot of it's popularity.

That being said, Medina may still end up getting my vote.

Those poor million dollar home owners...has anyone thought of them for a sec.? Medina has...she wants poor families who pay for baby formula and diapers to help pay the taxes for these poor unfortunate million dollar home-owners...don't think of the children! Think of these poor million-dollar home owners!

Don't you know anything about politics? The truth don't matter...the message would have been out there and it's a uphill battle for Perry from that point on...Kay's playing all nice...that's not the Kay I remember....maybe a strong Dem should try for her Senate seat after this weak campaign....

...guess I'll have to Start 'Democrats for Kay! (but only in 2010)'

It wouldn't have mattered. Perry's a better mudslinger than Kay. Plain and simple. Kay is stuck being the candidate who was in Washington during a time when most republican primary voters don't want anything to do with Washington. Kay is also getting hurt by Medina's presence. Perry has the pro-lifer, angry white guy vote locked up so Kay's only chance to win was getting more moderates & libertarians out to vote. Unfortunately for Kay, the moderate/libertarian crowd is the one Medina appeals the most to.

Feel free to put as much, or as little, weight into this as you choose. Latest rasmussen poll shows KBH losing ground.

Have you listened to Medina? She's to the right of Perry, who's to the right of Hutch.....Hutch needs to be more like Medina, and Medina needs Hutch's executive experience...together they make Rick Perry look centrist-right..which is where most wing-nut voters really are...
