Some vets will also be bought out before the March 1st deadline. This trade could also be a sign that Spurs have some vet PF/C in sight who are better than Ratliff for the 5th PF/C spot.
speaking of vets being bought out . . .

Maybe Finley asks for his release so he can sign with a contender after getting DNP-CD'd for the first time.

    This doesn't happen already?
Yeah but Mahinmi has dressed how many games this year? Like four or five?

I'm not saying Mahinmi will suddenly be in the rotation, but he will at least be available more nights now. And maybe, just maybe, the Spurs will be down and Pop will look down the bench and point to Mahinmi. I doubt it ... but now there's an actual chance.

Or if it's Hairston who gets to dress now ... that's probably even better. Hairston could be useful in certain matchups.

I know the move is mostly a salary dump but the side effect of forcing some youth onto the active roster is a good thing.

The Spurs are good about signing someone for cheap late in the season [/last vestige of possibility]

Please let it be more than a rock.

@ Big Z. David Robinson at this age w/ a beer belly is probably faster and has more foot speed than that bald ex-Cav.

Ratliff to Charlotte is a salary dump, obviously. Future conditional pick that Spurs will probably never see.

Traded a guy that didn't play to begin with.
He didn't play because we're playing that ty ass small ball, which actually backs up my point. I see you are finally figuring things on your own.

But again, if you want to sit there and cry and and act like Roger Mason's butt hurt man on the side, go right ahead.
So what if I want to ? What are you going to do? Eat me?

I was thinking the same thing about big Z. I know I'd rather have him or even Gooden over the Rattler.
Well, BigZ is an over the hill vet, so he definitely has a shot with us...

Charlotte's DJ Augustin is going to San Antonio, source says.

Who knows if any of this is true.
There is no "source" for the DJ Augustine part. It was only speculation on the board. Looks more like it's only for cap relief and maybe a second round pick or somethign of the like. Numbers woul dnever work with DJ for Theo. Theo is only making the veteran minimum.

Yeah, the Bobcats weren't going to give the Spurs anything tangible for Ratliff. The question is how much cash the Spurs had to include in the deal. Hopefully none but I doubt it.

I think it's more likely that the Spurs will be down, Pop will look to the bench, point to Mahinmi and proclaim loudly while Ian is starting to stand up . . .

"SIT YOUR ASS DOWN! Mason, you're in, and you've got Pau!"

Yes, it's because Pops likes small ball, not that he's a ~37 y/o center with a bad back, that he didn't see playing time.

Why not, was worth a shot at the time, now it isn't. Did you really expect him to play 20+ minutes a game?

Let's see if Larry Brown plays him...

Again, why it made sense to sign him at all?

And if Mahinmi hasn't been traded, it's quite in-understandable.

Either Spurs tried to trade him and failed at it or they wanted to keep it.

Mahinmi hasn't been mentioned in a single trade rumor and I think he could have been traded quite easily to the Nets. It doesn't look like Spurs have really try to trade him.

I don't see the point in keeping Ian. It will cost some money and won't help the team short or long term wise. Short term wise, Ian is still raw and would do mistakes. Long term wise, his contract makes the situation extremely complicated.

    I'm lost.
