As I remember, Hughes was a good defender and was among the league leaders in steals (though I could be wrong). He's got good height at that 2-3 position and would play good defense there.
Hughes lead the league in steals 2004-05 and was honored all defense 1st team that season. (he had 22PPG, 6.2RPG and 4.7 APG that season).
yes, he wasn't as good again, he's injured a lot and he can't shoot.
but jesus, we are talking about a simple question. Spurs have two open slots, and the prorated vet. min for him is about 300K. none talks about waiving Hill or what to make room for him. yes we have a lot of guards. guess what, some of them suck badly. Bogans, Mason and Finley are not exactly the elite of back court defense these days. , I even didn't want them to guard my grandmother over a street. good chance she will be overrun by a hydrant when this three are around. many of our games are lost because the back court can't defend a turtle with two broken legs. would Hughes help? maybe, maybe not. at least there is a chance he could stop a turtle.

The only reason to sign Larry Hughes is if the Spurs are trying to tank.
He could be like Dominique Wilkins was in 96?

I was hoping they would do that to , but he still has 3 years left on his contract so they probably won't do that, but if they did, I would hope the Spurs were one of the first teams going after him

Hughes Wants To Sign With Charlotte

Larry Hughes would like to sign with the Bobcats, according to a source. Hughes was waived this week by the Kings.

Hughes played in Philadelphia for Bobcats coach Larry Brown and worked with Bobcats general manager Rod Higgins when Higgins was in management roles in Washington and Golden State.

Signing Hughes would cost the Bobcats about $240,000 the rest of the season, a number that would still keep them below the threshold to pay the NBA's luxury tax.

Hughes will help, bobcats really needed some guard depth now that Law and Flip Murray were traded.

Now if the spurs could only find a center off waivers...

    I'm sure he'd be a real gem.

reportedly the Bobcats are interested in signing him.
problem is, he is injured again. (out for 3-4 more weeks)
Hughes for 13 million wasn't a good deal obviously.
for the min he would be worth a thought. I mean, we start Bogans, don't we.
I say "yes" at the right price and get rid of Finley NOW and his entire minutes!!! What a time waster on the floor /Finley is/...

Play Hairston... or go shopping in the Dleague (Carlos Powell, Mike Harris), if we were going to do this. I think either is a preferable option to Hughes.

Again, I would try the D-league, because Z ain't coming here. I'd try Dwayne Jones... from the D-league (again).

But the FO is going to do none of this...

I watched the 2nd to last game Hughes played for the Knicks against the Wizards, which was the first game he played in a while since D'Antoni benched him for a while. He looked good, moved well, got into the passing lanes, attacked the basket. One of the things he is underrated at is a play maker, he was basically the PG for the Cavs when he played with Lebron and he did some in Washington as well.

Compared to Bogans, I'd be more comfortable with the ball in Hughes' hands. Sure he isn't the greatest shooter but for the price off waivers he would be more valuable then Bogans
