Totally agree and Pop is slowly coming around to giving playing time to younger guys like Hill, Blair, and it looks like Hairston now. IMO pop is the kind of coach that doesn't want to just throw a young guy out their for the sake of letting them get their feet wet. Instead, Pop micromanages their minutes, and brings them along slowly maybe too slowly to alot of fans, but Pop, like alot of coaches absolutely hates younger, inexpierenced players, because of their penchant for making rookie type mistakes. I have no problem with people criticizing Pop for his philosphy on playing young guys, but Pop does eventually play these type of players when he feels their ready.

I can't say I agree with you on that. He didn't play Hill in the playoffs last year until he ran out of options. Hill (maybe not "ready" to play) could have helped earlier. Don't play these unproven guys when your core is consistently performing to a level that makes you a contender - until you're at that level you need to find something that works.

pops an idiot for not playin ghill last season against the mavs in the playoffs, ghill3 was doing a fine job in the regular season guarding alot of the elite guards in league from kobe, nash, iverson who else did he on when given the opportunity

In addition, Pop benched Bowen last year in favor of Finley until it was too late as well, then comes in this year and touts Bogans as the same type player as Bowen. That's a pretty clear inidication that he's an idiot.

What pisses me off is the fact some of this seems so obvious from a personnel standpoint.

We are lacking a consistent athletic defensive presence in the paint next to Tim Duncan. We have a rookie who could at least somewhat fill the void. Pop's plan? Simply don't play the rookie at all. We'd rather go for broke on a small ball lineup than give ourselves any chance at having the necessary tools for victory.

What makes the situation even worse is that Ian has been decent in his garbage minutes.

It's not just Ian. You've got a guy like Hairston who IMO is significantly more talented than Bogans in every way except shooting. Why not pit him against Bogans for some minutes early in the season? Even if you're Pop and leaning against Hairston, you still give him a chance to succeed, simply because his unrealized potential could be high enough to warrant it.

Even more confusion is caused by Pop when he can't settle on a rotation with the players he's chosen.

The Ian story is just total BS, though. Exact skillset we need, groomed for years in our system, nope, no chance for you.

I'm going simply on what he's done on defense this year that I've seen with my own eyes. His rotations and energy are far better than anyone on the team not named Ginobili and he has the height to change shots. It's really hard to overrate a guy's defense when he's the only center over 6'7" with any athletic ability on the entire roster.

Ian could've been playing a similar as Chris Andersen does in Denver. Oh well, we've got Bonner to depend on for rebounding and interior defense.
