I'm not the least bit surprised they lost, this is team bad news/luck, ever since Ginobili's ankle injury in the '08 playoffs, it seems like nothing has went this teams way. Just when things were looking up, he get's injured again (though I think this was more rest/precautionary) and the team suffers a crushing loss, basically sapping all of the momentum they had recently gained.

Just goes to show you how important Manu is to the Spurs. We would've won the le in 2008 if Manu had been healthy.

This is pretty much free therapy for some on ST, maybe more for some than others . In the end everyone calms down the following day and we'll still love and support the Spurs.
For the sake of them I hope so.

No, they couldn't. Brook Lopez and Devin Harris are better than every single player on those teams you mentioned.

The Spurs needed this win desperately. They should be ashamed.

My main concern is that Duncan is literally a shadow of his former self. Seriously.

Either there is a serious injury the Spurs' brass is hiding, or this is Tim Duncan declining extremely fast in front of our eyes. He looks lost out there. On offense, he is getting the ball in the right/correct spots... he simply looks very slow out there. On defense, he let's everyone score on him. He still has length and positioning, but even his timing looks rusty.

Can you say with confidence now days that a team with Duncan as a leader cannot miss the playoffs? That Duncan would not let that happen. Not anymore.

I know TP is injured, and Pop gave Manu the day off, but give me a ing break. These are the Nets!! The team that never watches and analyze video together as a team!! The team that was on track to get the worst record in the history of the NBA!! The team that we had a 15 wining streak against them!! Are you telling me that Duncan, Richardson, McDyess, Hill, Blair, Bonner, the Centerpiece and Mason are not enough to beat the Nets?

The problem I see know is the sharply decline from TD is that we have no interior defense. In the playoffs, Manu could play like SuperManu on both ends of the floor, TP could comeback fresh and be unstoppable... they could potentially cover the offense and create for others to compensate for TD offense. This is tough, but it could be (hypothetically) done.

What it cannot be covered is the front court defense of the paint. If Duncan falters, then... well, we are screwed. McDyess could help, but may not be enough. Blair can get some rebounds, but he wont help with long front court players... and Bonner on defense will try but he doesn't have the physical prowess to be a good defender. Ian is too green and too foul prone... alas, we are screwed.

Defense in the paint is currently the huge Spurs' Achilles heel in the playoffs.
Well this trainwreck was pretty easy to see coming. Pop or Holt (or both) had an emo-episode about a guy making the vet minimum and trashed the only guy on the team who could have provided the element missing (interior presence and shotblocking) to help Duncan in the paint.

Instead we get to see the worst help defender in the nba, Matt Bonner, play almost 30 minutes each and every game and sit out on the 3 pt line providing no interior help and throw up bricks all game long.

happens, move on. The Spurs over the past few years (even championship years) have been known to follow up HUGE wins against a great team with a horrible loss against a crappy team. It's the NBA, it happens...

This years Spurs team could not win a game in the March Madness 65. This team has no pride, no chemistry and it seems very few of the players really give a damn. Losing seems to be ok with this group. Oh well, what the ...we didn't stand a chance of winning one game from the Lakers in the 1st round anyway. We should start prepping for the 2024 season.

a WAR for the Spurs, a cakewalk for the Lakers.

Spurs just fear them too much. Dice's slow ass wont help against Bynum/Gasol/Odom.

didn't the nets barely get everybody back from injury or something like that?

obviously its extremely disappointing that we lost but just like pj carlesimo was saying on the broadcast, spurs had to bring it tonight. everybody knew that the nets are desperate for wins, and this was the classic trap game.

previous to this game, we played 5 games against playoff teams, did well against them and now going off to face the worst team (record wise), on the 2nd night of a back to back, without 2 of the big 3. and the 3rd of the big only looking like half of himself right now, whether its fatigue or injuries, or just oldness idk.

spurs should have won, but we didn't. Hopefully we bounce back and Manu plays on Wednesday.

as long as parker/MANU/duncan are healthy in the playoffs, ESPECIALLY MANU, i wouldnt count out the spurs

I wouldn't say they fear them, that team is just overall better so fear or not they can't beat them at this point (Too small frontline).

I guess everyone fears LA then? Not a team out there can beat them IMO.

If we are stuck with that seed we are at now even if healthy we are out in one round. We need to get away from that 8th seed.

Who knows, maybe facing the Lakers in round one could be a blessing in disguise-- if Bynum isn't fully recovered yet and Manu and Parker are feeling good. Honestly, at this point, I don't care where the Spurs end up, seeding wise. It's gonna take at least one big upset and one smaller surprise to get to the finals anyway and they might as well face the biggest hurdle right away.

difference in the game was FT's 11-20 and TO's 16.
Tim Duncan lead the team with 4 turnovers.

There are teams that can beat the Lakers, but most of them are in the Eastern Conference.
