My dad is pissed you can't just connect it to any pc.
Loving it so far. Even though I'm on 3G, webpages load incredibly fast. The calls are clear and easy to understand the other person on the phone.
And this phone kicks the ass of EVERYTHING out there. Even the Droid Incredible's screen feels small after using this for a while.
My dad is pissed you can't just connect it to any pc.
What do you mean? I connect my evo to every computer I have with no problem at all. Just set it to data transfer mode and start moving files.
I'll be sure to tell him. It told him he needed HTC sync or something.
No idea why it said that. When he connects it via USB it should ask him what he wants to do with the phone, although he may have to set that in options.
CH, Shoog, or anybody else for that matter that's gotten a hold a' one of these, are there any apps you'd recommend? So far, all I've gotten is Shazam, Pandora, and this Calvin & Hobbes app that gives me a daily comic strip.
Advanced Task Killer - must have
Alarm Clock plus - For alarms in the morning
Aldiko - Free books!
Alice - It's a cool program that checks artists on your phone and alerts you to upcoming concerts near you that the artists are playing in.
Barcode Scanner - Scan a code and you can look up reviews of the product.
Battery Status Pro/BatteryTime Lite - Not sure which I like more. Shows you how much battery time you have left.
Boondocks - Comic
Calvin & Hobbes - Comic
Chess
Digg - I'm a huge fan of digg so this native app is sweet
Dolphin Browser HD - Tabbed, gesture-based browsing. Pretty cool.
Google Earth
EasyTether - Full version is only $10. I haven't tested this yet though.
eBay
Evernote - Best note taking program for Android
Google Sky Map - Gives you a star chart for each night. Awesome for an amateur astronomer.
Layar - Kind of like Google Goggles. I haven't tried this much yet though.
LED Light - Awesome, allows you to use the super bright LED as a flashlight.
LogMeIn - Probably the coolest app I have. Allows you to quickly and easily take complete control of your computer from the phone. Very easy to use and very reliable, too.
Meebo IM - For IMing through Gchat/AIM/MSN/Facebook
Nesoid - Nintendo games on your phone. Works EXTREMELY well. I already have a ton of NES games on the Evo.
NPR News
Pandora
Peanuts
Skyfire - Browser that works really well with many flash based websites.
ShootMe - Allows you to take quick, easy screenshots. Does NOT require rooting the device for the Evo.
Substrate - Really sweet live wallpapers.
Weatherbug - The best program I've used thus far for weather.
Where's my Droid - Allows you to send a text to the phone which will send a message back to the sender with the location of the phone, or just ring it for 30-60 seconds.
World War - Game. Haven't played it yet.
XKCD Viewer - Comic
That's it for now.
I have done a lot of customizing with the 7 home screens as well.
My main home screen has nothing on it except 4 icons across the bottom - Messages, Gmail, Internet (standard browser), and Camera.
My upper left screen is weather. My left screen is a slew of widgets. Wifi, 4G, Bluetooth, and GPS across the bottom, LED Light on top. Across the middle I have a friendstream widget linked to Facebook, which is pretty impressive.
Lower left are my bookmarks.
Lower right is my most common apps. Camcorder, Digg, Dolphin HD, Facebook, Maps, Market, Meebo, Music, Nesoid, NPR News, Pandora, Shazam, Talk, Weatherbug, and Youtube.
Right home screen are my favorites, people I talk/text to the most often.
Top right is for texting, but I'll probably change that soon to something a little more useful/less redundant.

Tikl - touch to talk (beta) is a cool one. its a walkie app for your phone
Ha! Well, that was unexpected, but greatly helpful.
I'm loving the Dolphin HD browser. The LED Light is SUCH a cool app to have when stumbling through my apt at night. I just downloaded the Tikl. Thanks for the suggestions, fellas.
Outta curiosity, got any screen caps of your home screens?
I love my Iphone and the next one looks great
But Apple, no Flash, that's re ed
I hope Apple will lose a significant market share just because of that and be forced to allow Flash
lol, not gonna happen.
Too bad I dont like Android
Otherwise, I would already have switched
Not in any way trying to start an arguement, I am just wondering which specific features/lack of features cause you to say this?
Sure do. All taken, uploaded, and posted using the EVO.
Main screen:
Music (which replaced my IM screen)
Connectivity:
The seven screens:
![]()
And a couple more apps which are excellent. Photobucket, which allows you to upload photos very, very easily, and "AndExplorer", which allows you to view and access the file structure in your phone (think Windows Explorer).
Loving this device. It's absurd how many useful things you can do with it.
EDIT: Now I'm checking these out.

Your mom is hot
how did you get the screenshots? That format looks exactly the same as my slide, 4g aside lol
Twankies, I posted this earlier in the thread:
ShootMe - Allows you to take quick, easy screenshots. Does NOT require rooting the device for the Evo.
I will say that ShootMe takes some patience. There is a shutter delay from when you actually hear the sound, so if you change anything on your screen, you could get clipping or tearing. But it works beautifully if you give it a few seconds.
Well, I've made a change to my Evo.
I've downloaded SWYPE technology and am using it now as my primary method of input.
It's absolutely phenomenal. I'm not sure if it's actually faster than standard typing with a touchscreen, but I think it has the potential to be far faster.

Here's the link I used. You have to sign up to get the download but it's completely free.
For those of you that don't know, Swype is a keyboard for touchscreen phones that's completely free of the need to press and depress letters. You literally move your finger to the letters in a word, and Swype intelligently discovers which word you wanted to be write, and then displays it.
It's pretty damned impressive. I'm a total rookie with Swype and I'm probably already approaching my typing speed with a standard touchscreen keyboard. It's absolutely ridiculous, and looks cool as .

You guys ing suck. I should had the Evo this past Wed. but BestBuy had some kind of glitch in their computers and now i have to wait till tomorrow.
I recommend everyone give Swype a try. It's free, and it's pretty impressive software. If you don't like it, you can always go back to the regular keyboard... and I believe Swype functions as a standard keyboard as well if you want to use it like that.
Well you only have one more day to wait for the best phone on the market!
I'd be talking to Best Buy about giving me some SERIOUS discounts on that phone for the hassle. Maybe like $50 off or a free case or something. Depending on the store manager, if you make enough noise they'll usually acquiesce and give you something cool.
Do you think a Non-rooted hero w/2.1 will run it?
I can almost guarantee you that it will. There is really no difference between android operating stasystems, especially between two htc phones. Give it a shot. Shouldnt take more than 5 minutes to download and install on your phone. Just be sure to follow the instructions they give you on the site.
just got mine a few days ago in the mail first experience with a touch screen so im in the early stages but yeah this phone is pretty sick
