In today's NBA, the only way you're getting a proven AS caliber player who isn't completely over the hill is maxing him out.
Roddy B is the real deal, I cannot blame him for not doing this. Roddy B will be one of the most dominant PG's in years to come. Cuban making a good move.

I think this is smart. Beaubois does have a lot of potential. I would trade Dampier and Butler, who I'm not a fan of, if I were Dallas. Since they don't seem to want to play Marion at PF ever (he should be getting Najera's minutes there when Dirk sits imo) they basically have two SF's and no real shooting guards.

No. Kobe had a no-trade clause and made it clear he would only accept a trade to Dallas to play with Dirk.

Cuban turned it down before Kobe was ever consulted. He turned it down because he didn't think Dirk for Kobe was a good trade. It had nothing to do with Kobe's no trade clause.
Cuban is going out of his way to make big pitches to guys like LeBron and Joe Johnson. You're telling me he couldn't have done the same thing with Kobe?
