Reports are contradicting about Ian and it's possible that he is only paid a min salary (about $900K).
I am very happy that Ian got guaranteed money. It will be interesting to see how much when it is all said and done.

I really wish other teams would not have overpaid for very marginal players. It screwed the Spurs big time.

Well taking into consideration all the crap contracts the contest was not very hard to win.

And to think, there were reports last week about him and his camp waiting for a satisfactory offer from the Spurs. Then they sign him for 3 years/$10.9 million, which begs the question: what were they offering before? They must have really been trying to low ball him.

    Two other thoughts on this...

    1) It's now clear that the Spurs are going to pursue a veteran wing.

    2) I have a bad feeling that Splitter isn't going to play nearly as prominent a role next season as many hope and assume he will.

Well this makes one wonder why Bonner was so happy about getting "his long term security".

Oh man, this makes the Bonner deal look even worse. Was Bonner really worth that on the free market (outside of the Spurs)?
Of course Bonner was not worth it.

Hmmm ... now the Spurs might have to decide between giving Richards a three-year deal or going after a player who otherwise is getting offered the LLE.
I think that signing Richards to only a 2 years contract is an acceptable drawback if Spurs can get a good player with the rest of their MLE. After 2 years, he will be a RFA and Spurs will still be in the driver seat.

With the rest of their MLE, Spurs can offer a $7.8M/3 years contract while the full LLE is $4.3M/2 years. They have a significant financial edge over teams offering only the LLE.

I'm guessing the Spurs didn't by any bluff by Splitter's people. In his press conference, Splitter basically said he wanted to come to the NBA this year no matter what. The FO must have figured as much and insisted he take a Scola-esque deal.

It was a risky move by the Spurs but it apparently paid off. Now, if they want, they may be able to get a decent vet swingman to add to the mix.

Compared to his last contract? He is making around 2 million more a year.
So he made about $4,000,000 in Spain during his career there? I'm lost!

That well is almost dry and teams are still overpaying.

It also works for Splitter because in 3 seasons he will still be in the good side of 30, and with 3 seasons of experience under his belt. He'll probably command good money then.

I didn't think this summer could be as good as last year's. But now it's awesome!
I'm thrilled the Spurs are getting Tiago. Finally, no more wish threads. Tiago is here. Let's see who else the Spurs can reel in.

Sure glad I renewed my season tickets.

After the Scola fiasco, the wait for Splitter has seemed interminable. Glad it's finally been put to rest, and now I'm officially itching for the season to start again.

    Gonna be a long summer.
