Barnes could possibly be the Spurs' answer at starting SF. He can be brought in and do the things RJ was expected to do last year in the starting lineup, which was rebound,be the primary perimeter defender, and make open 3's. Then, RJ can come off the bench and focus on scoring. RJ is a good rebounder and a passable defender, but too many times he let his lack of scoring affect him in other areas of his game.

Barnes isn't perfect but he can add some toughness and compe ive fire at the 3. I'd rather have Bell if the Spurs are high enough on Hairston to give him regular playing time.

Exactly, Barnes is the cheapest option left that could still come in and challenge for the starting SF spot, it would create healthy compe ion between him and RJ. Barnes has the ability to guard bigger players like Dirk.

Ofcourse now someone heard on the radion that Pop said he doesn't like Barnes. If true then that ends Barnes chances of ever playing here, but I wouldn't be upset if the Spurs signed him.

I wonder what Pop has against him. I know he is a headcase, but the Spurs tried to trade for Artest a few years ago.

another thing good about Barnes is that he hasn't had any injury problems the last couple of seasons.

Is there any chance we sign Barnes? That's who I've wanted all along, the year that he had last year is exactly what we need out of him, nothing more and nothing less. Perfect fit.

He hasn't said he's interested in playing for us, and he's met with teams where interest is mutual, so odds are we won't get him. If he can't hook anything up and RJ does jump ship, he may need us as bad as we do him, though. Who knows?

Mark Stein says deal is in trouble. Woj said is dead. Barnes still on the market although I suspect he is way out of our reach.

It will be epically hilarious if he ends up with the spurs after all of this.

You won't be laughing anytime soon...since there isn't a single bit of mutual interest.

    Woj via Twitter:
Unless Cleveland raises multi-year offer that starts around $3.5M, Matt Barnes will sign a 1-year, $1.7M deal with Lakers, sources tell Y!
$1.7M? We could have gotten him for that. Even a bit more using the exceptions. But like some say, it seemed there was no interest in either part. I guess we are going with the young guys.

Source close to Lakers SF Matt Barnes says it's unlikely he'll opt out. No final decision, but he wants to try this Lakers thing again.

He likes being in LA and west coast. He took less money to be in his home town.
