    fixed

dirk (and to an extent nash) wasted half their careers playing nellie ball. Give some of those teams phil or pop, and they probably snatch a ring.

The dirk-era mavs have always had great talent, but lacked a great coach.

But, son, as much as you dislike Dirk, you have to admit that he's never had a big man of Gasol's or Shaq's caliber to cover up his poor shooting efforts. You know Kobe has played with the greatest talent in the post-Jordan era.

Dirk had to shoot lights out for those Mavs to have any chance. If he was off, there was no Shaq or Gasol to dump it down into for a high-percentage attempt.
Thats what Dirk's 7 feet of height is for. If he wasn't a giant shooting guard maybe he wouldn't need a Shaq or Gasol.

Dirk - Prime Mike Finley, Steve Nash and 57 win teams ..... he's had good, solid players around him
    @ Prime Michael Finley

    2001 conf semi game 5

    Finley 1-17 fg 0-0 FT = 2 points
    Dirk 14-24fg 14-18ft 18reb = 42 points

Even during Finleys glory years, a young Dirk still had to carry his stepback jumper ass

what are the chances Kobe would have made "The Decision" look tame by comparison if his team hadn't been gifted Gasol? 99%? 100%? 110%?

Either way, Michael Finley and Mavs era Steve Nash hardly competes with prime Shaq and Gasol.

Dirk's 7 ft tall and plays PF.

He's not supposed to need "a big man of Gasol's or Shaq's caliber to cover up his poor shooting efforts."

He's supposed to BE the big man who covers up for Jet/Finley/Howard/Nash/Kidd/Whoever's poor shooting efforts...

How many les did Shaq and Gasol win without Kobe and Wade?

It doesn't really matter whether Dirk is cast as the "big man of Gasol's or Shaq's caliber" or a 7 ft shooting guard, the reality remains that he hasn't had a superstar complement of Shaq, Kobe, or Wade's caliber ever.

What's funny is if Parker and Ginobili never played with Tim, they would never be considered great championship talent. Ginobili maybe, but Parker has sucked in 2/3 Finals.

Doesn't that happen with pretty much every great player by fans of opposing teams? It's not like Dirk is even one of the most hated on players, on these messageboards anyway. Dirk gets a lot of love on these boards especially considering it's not a Mavs messageboard. I think a month ago, Spurs fans even started a thread giving him props for being a tough SOB, and even Laker fans showed Dirk some love.
