well it's not like they earned it. they haven't won in 3 years, they're not up and coming, they got 7th seed last year, no really marketable players, "boring" style of play... it's sad but ya gotta come to terms with it
So, only the Lakers and Celtics should be shown on TV? What has the Heat won in 4 years? The Spurs are probably less boring now than they were 3 years ago.

    Serious question here.
I live in Ft. Worth and subscribe to NBA League Pass on DirecTV. I want to switch to ATT Uverse to get a package deal for phone, internet, TV but I know they don't have anything comperable to League Pass. It seems like Fox sports broadcast most of the Spurs games. Anyone with any knowledge here know how many games I would miss by switching?
As last check, AT&T UVerse DOES NOT carry NBA League Pass, as part of any supplemental or option purchase. As far as Fox Sports is concerned, the network carries ONLY the local team in that NBA market. Therefore if you live in Ft. Worth, you can count on seeing a number of Mavs games on Fox - but not the Spurs. Unless, of course, the Spurs are playing the Mavs in Big D.

not true for Time Warner Cable at least. They will tell you they black out but they don't. Same for NBA TV.

The only games not available on NBALP are those carried by national or regional (FSNSW) TV, where NBA TV counts as national TV.

Was true in the past, but last season KBVO carried almost all of the Spurs games that weren't national or regional, and KXAN (I believe) carried the rest. I think I missed seeing only like 2 or 3 Spurs games on my TWC in Austin. So I did not purchase NBALP last season, didn't seem worth it to pick up those 2-3 extra games.

My only beef with KBVO is that they did not pick up the HD feeds from San Antonio.
Yeah, KBVO did a much better job last season now that I think about it. All things being told, I still only missed a handful of games as well (between tv and online), so it was worth saving the cost of NBALP.

Still, that's interesting to know about the black outs. I had heard about them in Austin, and also had a game blacked out once while NBALP was doing its free promotion, so I assumed that was the case for all of them. To be honest though, I didn't want to sink my money into really finding out for sure.

You'll miss in the range of 20ish games that are not on FSNSW but only carried on local San Antonio TV.

If you really want to know just go to spurs.com and look at last year's TV schedule.
Thanks. I was thinking that with the UVerse sports package, I would be able to get the games broadcast by the visiting teams networks. But maybe not. Missing 20 games makes it a non starter.

You're right about UVerse. Still nothing offered like the NBA package. Yes, I understand if I was just getting the local Fox network, I would never see the Spurs except when the played the Mavs. But it seems that if the UVerse sports package included all the Fox Sports networks, then I would see any games shown on FSSW as well as some of the other teams broadcasts. As an example, if Spurs were playing Orlando and the game wasn't being shown on FSSW, would that game possibly be shown on some other Fox Sports channel.

We just need to vote out the Spurs from NBATV fan night during the season.
We gotta organize, sticky a thread and do it. I can't bear anymore Kamla and Co killing the local broadcast and switching to the Orlando game while the Spurs game is ongoing.

If the Spurs win games and advance in the playoffs, they'll get plenty of coverage on national television in 2010-11.

Yeah, I was scratching my head and wondering why people were ing about 22 games well spread through big matchups throughout the season until I realized that the first posts had an incomplete link.

alright, but those are a couple of factors that contribute to the fact that they aren't really a prime time team anymore. you dwelled on two points and missed the other ones. add em all up and it will equal no prime time coverage for the spurs.

    Where's the equality?
    Equality on Spurstalk:
    1. Originated because some bold members had more slack a when creating terrible threads that should be locked.
    2. Most people thought the message was against the long-term members who bash new guys just for being new guys. This rarely happens.

This is now the meaning of my "Equality on Spurstalk" thread. It doesn't mean you should purposely troll the spurs forum. Do that all you want in the nba forum but when you come up here we want substance. For now on when you post in the spurs forum just tap into your alter ego and then you will be welcomed. I would tell you to look up the thread so you can read the speech but Kori Ellis took it off. She said it was going to be put back up when I pm her but she hasn't done it yet. Done Deal

A three sentence response is not exactly "dwelling". What points did I miss? That the Spurs aren't "up and coming" and have no marketable players? The Spurs have never had marketable players. They are bringing their youngest team in years into next season and George Hill and DeJuan Blair are primed to have breakout years. The Spurs have been marketed in the past as a team first organization with selfless stars devoid of ego.
Like I said before, you can't just have Lakers/Celtics/Heat games every night. There are only a handful of marketable individual players out there. That kind of bull is for new or casual fans. Most basketball fans want to watch a 2 good teams play a team sport. Who gives a about marketable players?

Heat have done nada however now that the "dream team" is in S FLA, suddenly they are the "in" thing....not a surprise.

ok. you're still not getting it. ABC and the general public (new or casual fans who make the ratings) don't care about george hill or dejuan blair, and barely care about duncan or ginobili. spurs are not on prime time games because they will not help the ratings and the spurs have not shaken the "boring" image.

i agree with you that the spurs are the youngest in years and could be the most exciting to watch. but the casual nba fan down the street would rather see the lakers, celtics, heat, and maybe the magic.

who cares about marketable players?? you're kidding right? james, wade, bryant, and bosh are the kinds of players america wants to see. ever wonder why tim duncan jerseys are always at the bottom of the list in top sellers? outside of texas you can't even find anything spurs oriented.

and that's why the spurs aren't on abc this year. i don't get why you're arguing it. the schedule the nba posted is proof

You've got the part in bold totally wrong my friend. Prior to last season, Timmy actually had a top 15 selling jersey for 3-5 years, and that's with the added fact that the Spurs don't wear many variants. Plus, unlike Kobe and LeBron, Timmy hasn't ever changed his jersey number to boost his sales back up.

You'd be surprised how many Spurs fans are in attendance here in D.C. during Wizards vs. Spurs games. Most successful teams have a good following throughout the NBA, and I'm sure the Spurs aren't much different.

No, you don't get it. The Spurs never have a lot of games on ABC. New and casual fans don't make ratings and I already know that most people do not care about the Spurs. I'm not arguing that these things aren't true. I'm saying that they shouldn't matter. People are just going to watch what's on TV. The Spurs aren't a big market team with players who do puppet commercials, but people know who the Spurs are and they have fans outside of Texas.
Basketball fans are going to watch whatever two teams the NBA throws on ABC because they have no choice. Hardcore fans might buy League Pass, but that is just not a reality for a majority of people. The NBA is selling the product short by assuming that people are only interested in big market teams with individual star players. They are not selling the full potential of the product by just putting on the Lakers/Celtics/Heat regardless of the match-up. The NBA and it's fans would be best served by televising games that have two really good teams (perhaps with a rivalry) that will most likely have the most entertainment value and provide a compe ive game.
There is obviously a lot of interest in the Heat this year, and there is nothing wrong with that, but who is served by watching the Heat vs. Hawks when you could see the Spurs vs. the Mavs or the Thunder vs. the Blazers. It's short-sighted to put everything on 3/4 teams or players when the only way to attract new fans and regenerate interest with old fans is to give them something new and different instead of the same teams week after week.

Sorry bro, but this is simply not true. I live in Australia and I actually see Spurs jerseys quite often. In fact, in the year that I've lived here I've seen more Spurs jerseys than any other NBA team...which was actually really surprising to me. A month ago I was at a festival and I saw 6 guys in Spurs jerseys in one day - 2 Duncan jerseys, 2 Gino jerseys, 1 Parker, and a DRob jersey. A week ago I was in Bondi and saw two more guys sporting Spurs jerseys - a Gino and a Duncan.

Spurs seem to have bad luck with ABC games. I'm loaded with uverse, but sucks nationally for Spurs fans and just reflects the 'who gives a about the Spurs' at ude that pervades the national media.

Spurs will have a good amount of games on TV.

The spurs dont draw the interest of the other big market franchises so they will be on less than those teams. The networks have it all figured out on what they think will draw the best ratings.
