Because more established and proven players like Duncan, Garnett, Kobe, etc decided not to play. Plus, team USA wanted to pick a young group and have them go through the program and get them ready for the Olympics where they punked Greece and everyone else. I can't stand the Olympics, but its always been the more important tournament to Team USA.
