    Nobody claims there aren't. Newsflash...there are Dems who believe this too.

    What you did was make several false claims, by proxy, then backpeddle furiously when you got called on it. It's ok. I realize you're wrong even if you can't.
    Cutting through all of this:

    More and more people, especially the people who get the majority of their information from heavily slanted conservative sources, are buying into the provably false "Obama is a muslim" idea.

    http://people-press.org/report/645/ that you posted shows that this idea, being heavily pushed by genuine nutters, shows how readily predisposed the average Republican is to believing this type of conspiracy theory.

    The fact that no small percentage of them think that supporting the right to build a mosque whereever they want to is interpreted as "putting the intrests of muslims" ahead of everybody else, is just as disturbing, and indicative to me of an overly-simplistic mindset, regardless of whether it is a majority or not.

    The subtlety of supporting the rights of a religious minority on principle, in order to protect all religions is not present in a lot of "conservative" thinkers minds, as can so easily be seen here.

    muslim=bad
    rights for muslims=bad

    Is not too far off of the way a lot of Republicans think, and in larger proportions than any conservative poster on this message board would admit to. , there are some who post here who actively believe this bull .

    corporations=bad
    Is just as dogmatically illogical for the left and a lot of Democrats

    Does anyone really doubt that?

    Do we need a poll to tell us that the right's emotional propaganda and constant reinforcement of subtle and no-so sublte falsehoods is going to have an effect?

    The view that Obama is a Muslim is more widespread among his political opponents than among his backers. Roughly a third of conservative Republicans (34%) say Obama is a Muslim, as do 30% of those who disapprove of Obama's job performance. But even among many of his supporters and allies, less than half now say Obama is a Christian. Among Democrats, for instance, 46% say Obama is a Christian, down from 55% in March 2009.

    I would agree with the bulk of this. However, I was responding to the use of misconstrued conclusions to support a predetermined outcome. You of all people recognize the validity of the old saw "You don't know what you don't know".
    It was obvious that boutons had not looked at a scrap of the underlying data. It's just as disturbing that Huffpo chose to adapt the Fox News model of information dissemination.

    Indeed. Speaks more strongly to the effectiveness of the propaganda. There are some fairly conservative Democrats to be sure, and they get a good chunk of their news out of the same sewer as you do.

    There's absolutely nothing wrong with being a Muslim, so why does the left act like this is an insult of the highest magnitude?

    A word by itself is relatively useless without context. Otherwise, there wouldn't be many successful satirists. Or did you think that Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal" was actually calling for the eating of babies?

    The word Muslims can certainly be used as an epithet, just like the word "woman" is used as an epithet in a statement like this: "What does she know about cars, she's a woman!"

    Logically, being a woman obviously says nothing about whether she knows about cars or not; socially, it uses the implication that women don't know alot about cars.

    Obviously the same occurs when people feel the need to spell out Barack HUSSEIN Obama. Did the same people feel the need to say George WALKER Bush? Of course not; so there's some reason for it. I'm pretty sure it's not just because they like the way the name sounds.

    Let's not forget that, because Democrats are less likely to call themselves Christian than Republicans are, they would be less likely to see a lack of Christian faith by a President as a bad thing.

    Did you listen to the video?

    Obama said "Muslim faith" the Stepanopolis corrected him to "Christian" and Obama went with it. If it was a reference to Obama saying McCain didn't make anything of the spin, of him being Muslim, why go along with the "Christian" if he was saying McCain didn't make anything of the Muslim angle?

    This does not make sense except to say Obama was referring to his actual faith, then realized in the correction, he needed to lie. If you have a different take, please explain.

    Yeah, my take is your an idiot.

    Put "muslim faith" in quotes (just like I did here) in the transcript and maybe you'll understand.

    But you won't, because you are just that stupid.

    He was talking about how some in the Republican camp were talking about him having a Muslim faith, but McCain didn't do that. He says, "You're absolutely right that McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith" because he meant that McCain hadn't claimed that Obama is of Muslim faith. Then, just to make sure because there are people that will twist anything he says, he specifically restates his answer later.

    The only reason he said, "My Christian faith" is because he realized he worded the Muslim faith thing awkwardly, and should have said that McCain hadn't claimed he was Muslim.

    Honestly WC, do you really think he's a closet Muslim?

    I don't know what to think. The automatic response would have been to clarify that the topic was people assuming he was Muslim, and that's why he said Muslim instead of Christian. Him agreeing with the correction doesn't add up.

    And if he is Muslim? Is that a dilemma for you?

    Well, I'd be pretty pissed if he lied about being a time traveler from the distant future but I'm not going to spend a lot of time wondering about whether he is one or not.
