Ewww, no way. I like my mashed taters simple: boil whole, unpeeled White Rose potatoes; when they are tender throw in some butter, salt, pepper and a splash of cream. Give it a few smashings right in the pot and serve. Easy as can be.

I can't stand garlic or cheese in mashed potatoes. At restaurants I will always ask about the mashed potatoes, because sometimes they sneak that stuff in even if the menu doesn't describe it that way.

My bulimic college roommate used to eat her ketchup and rice concoction every day.

And another roommate used to eat pasta with V8 juice as a sauce.

Used to make my stomach turn.

How do you put the ketchup on the mashed potatoes?
Do you use a spoon and form a bowl in the taters to put the ketchup in?

It's either white gravy or butter.

why boil? it leeches nearly everything nutritious out of the skin.

Oh I know, but mostly because it's convenient for me and I don't really care about the nutritional value of mashed potatoes; there are too many other vegetables I steam strictly for nutrition, to worry about potatoes

Me too. I used to use garlic powder, but roasted garlic is heaven. It completely melts into the potatoes.

Roasted garlic, kosher salt (I'd use grey salt if it weren't so ridiculously expensive), lots of butter, and a little bit of fat free half & half to make it creamy. That's all you need. Oh, and I leave the skins on. And mash it with an old school potato masher so they stay a little chunky. Nummy.

If you like putting ketchup on mashed potatoes, you probably like to put ketchup on a nice steak.

Hmmm. I'm not a huge fan of hash browns for breakfast, so I always add ketchup. And when my scrambled eggs get too close....it's a yummy mix up

On steak, definitely not. On scrambled eggs, yes!

Best thing to do with scrambled eggs:

Get a bagel, spread creme cheese on it, put the scrambled eggs on it, add ketchup! Sometimes w/o the ketchup, but still a wonderful combo.

Another option: bagel, creme cheese, y sausage and eggs. Doesn't necessarily have to be a bagel, but I prefer it.

This was discussed the last time this topic came around, but apparently ketchup in your mac & cheese is another big ticket. My brother likes it; I find it quite unsettling myself.

Now gravy on your french fries....that's some good eats right there.

I also heard that they like cheese and mayo on their fries in Canadia. Someone please confirm or disconfirm.

It amuses me that people get grossed out by mayonnaise on french fries (which I don't like, for the record), but call it an aioli sauce and suddenly it's delicious.
