Also consider your other child's name; if he's a traditional name maybe you should go with another traditional name.

And be careful with the alliteration!! Our oldest is Kenneth, the second Monica, and the 3rd one Keilie (kee-lee) which was a family name. Then we lost Monica and had the 2 K's. When the 4th one was coming we were advised by many to name him a K name or he would feel "left out". I love the name Kevin so we went with that and now we have the 3 K's. Everyone thinks that's so cute and that the letter K has a special significance to us (it doesn't), and that we planned it that way all along

I'm having trouble coming up with examples where this is a problem such as you describe. Obviously you can't put your own name out there, but would like to see some examples.
I'm thinking he means something like "Sam Moore" or "Bill Lee" maybe?
    Exactly, maalox.

For example Tom Jacoby is better than Tom Morris. One sounds like two names, the other sounds like Tomorous.
I mean it isn't a big deal. Probably something people don't think about unless they're personally afflicted. I notice my first name blending with my last though and I've always been slightly bothered by having to so deliberately pronounce each.

lol at you chumps ragging on Cayden. That name is fine. At least it is not some normal boring like Tom, Mike, David, etc.

If your son is not a puss, he won't be bullied. There is nothing to worry about. The person makes the name.

Top 10 Names for 2009 (according to Social Security Administration)
    1 Jacob
    2 Ethan
    3 Michael
    4 Alexander
    5 William
    6 Joshua
    7 Daniel
    8 Jayden
    9 Noah
    10 Anthony
For whatever it's worth three of those names are a first or middle name of my three boys.

Ethan is one of my sons first name, and Michael and Alexander are middle names of my other two sons.

So basically my three boys all have fairly traditional, white, long names.

I take it that you never watched Sex and the City? That's where the trend comes from... Aiden (actually Aidan Shaw) was Carrie's boyfriend for a while.
That's funny. I thought it was because of John and Kate Plus 8. I guess they named their kid that because of Sex and the City.

And I agree with most everybody else in here. Cayden is a horrible name. Do you really want to look back in 20 years realize that you chose one of these trendy white suburban sitcom-inspired hybrid names?

Maybe that's what you want. If so, here are some other name you may want to consider:
    Briceston
    Brayler
    Caiston
    Caistler
    Tylston
    Brosetly
    Brosten
    Braylen
    Taylster

You have 3 Ks and you think it's funny. I guess you're not black.

I named my son Adiran Grey. Adiran is Latin coming from the same root as Adrian. My wife found it and I loved it. And with the Grey middle name, if he ever becomes a movie/rock star, he can drop my last name and have the perfect stage name. (The Grey, spelling included, came from a joke that we ended up thinking ran well together.)

My wife suggested Aiden at the time. Shot that one down real quick.

For the record, my daughter's name is Amelie Lauren (pronounced like Ralph Lauren, plus Lauren is my wife's middle name). Since my daughter's first name is french, and my wife is part french, we ran with it all the way through.

If you want to do something different, maybe a last name as a first name like Lincoln. Don't know why, but I always thought it was a strong male name. But then kids might ask him where his stove pipe hat and beard is at or ask him to say "Four score and seven years ago..."

    LOL

Imagine what he would think of such a name as "Cayden"

I wonder what the trend is right now with baby girl names...why aren't we paralleling the boy name phenomenon and naming our girls Thomas, Richard, and George?

(I was trying to think of very masculine sounding female names but failed)

Thanks for the suggestions and advice. Ironically enough (for all you folks who think it sounds overly feminine), Cayden means spirit of battle. We were initially drawn to it because of the meaning... this baby definitely moves about like a fighter.

For those of you asking additional details, last name is McHugh and our other son's name is Gavin.

Once again, thanks for the suggestions!

That's all fine and good, but don't name your kid Cayden. He might turn into this guy:

Not a bad suggestion... I may have come off as a baby name nazi in this thread, but Gabriel is a name I like, isn't feminine, and traditional.

Isn't Aiden an old Irish name?? Something like that?

Anyway, yeah, you can't ask for advice on a message board unless you're prepared for brutal honesty. As for my two cents, I just don't like super trendy names. When I named my boys, I imagined them growing up to be doctors or lawyers or president. Your son won't always be a cutesy 5-year-old. Give him a man's name that will serve him well.

Edited to add a weird story from when I was pregnant: A lady at worked asked what we were naming our son and I told her and she said, "Whew! That's a big name for a little boy!" (and really, it's not, it's a pretty normal name). I said, "Well, he's going to grow up to be president, so he needs a big name."

Plus, the nickname "Gabe" is pretty bad ass. You gotta admit.
