Don't mention the iPhone to him!
Anyway, the PS1 only had two ports, but they had multi taps to get 8 controllers in certain games. I think Madden was a game where you could get 8 in theory.
I agree 100%. What nintendo does is what apple did with the iPhone. They take ideas that don't work very well or are poorly executed and they make them mainstream and user friendly.

The Sega Dreamcast had 4 controller ports and was released almost 3 years before Gamecube.
Even a hundred years before that, the Atari 5200 had four ports.
Also, the Nintendo 64 had 4 ports.
I want to get the Move but I think will wait until the price goes down. I really think it's going to bomb in sales so I wouldn't be suprised if the price goes down by Christmas time. Sony is not promoting this thing at all. I haven't even seen a commercial for it on tv. I've seen a few ads on the internet but that's about it. And Sony picked a terrible time to release it. Why would you release something big like The Move during the same week as Halo Reach? The Move is suppose to come out today but there were no ads for it in Best Buy or Target.
Update: The release date is supposedly Sept. 19th. I was confused by Gamestop. Gamestop said 9/17/10 and Target said the 19th. I think The Move shipped out today and is officially released on the 19th.

So, in a monumental case of "I'll never buy that" backfiring on me, I ended up buying the Move yesterday. What can I say? The g/f wanted it, and talked me into going half and half with her.
This system is exactly what the Nintendo Wii should have been. The control is PHENOMENAL. I cannot believe how accurately Sony has nailed the control schematic. I played disc golf for a couple of hours last night. I am a regular Ultimate Frisbee player, and my backhanded pulls (long throws) have a long hook to the right that settles into a slice to the left as the disc descends. It was there, spot on in the game. You can make tons of different throws and put all kinds of different angles on the disc.
I was the biggest skeptic possible with the Move, but one night of playing has convinced me that it's the real deal. The movement is as close to 1 to 1 as you could possibly hope for. Just make sure you have at least 6 feet of room to really get the accuracy necessary for the cam to track you. Best of all, you can't be a toolshed and flick your wrist to get the same movement out of the controller. You actually have to put force behind it, and the system will reward you if you add speed to the movement.
This thing blows the Wii completely out of the water. There is no contest. And this game looks like a of a lot of fun:
I thought maybe the accuracy of these punches were exaggerated. I can tell you that it's probably very close to this for real playing purposes.
I am impressed. If the Move gets some good games out with it (and I've heard great things about Resident Evil 5 and even Killzone 3), this setup could be a force in the business. Kinect has it's work cut out for them, because the Move is clearly far superior to the Wii from the moment you pick up the remote with the disco ball on top of it.![]()
I've been hearing and reading more and more personal reviews like that from both people w/ Move and who've played on Kinect. I've been going back and forth of preordering a Kinect - why over Move?... I simply use my 360 more and just think I'd get more use out of it. Plus I've already dropped too much money on Wii controllers, at least I'd only need the one time cost periphery for Kinect (hopefully). That said, my I'm absolutely slammed from Nov-March and that along with a lack of specific game reviews so far is keeping me from pulling the trigger.
I apparently am one of the few pretty interested in Kinect but I think that it's something that would probably fit me and my family fairly well.
I'd wait for reviews for it once it launches. From what I've heard, it's not very accurate, but this could be totally wrong.
I'm actually really anxious to see if the Kinect is as good as MS says it is. It could actually make motion controls worthy of having for a next-gen system.
The one thing I've been reading more and more is that it's becoming more and more 1 to 1 and that the original lag/accuracy issues were on demo/alpha builds... that it's all coming together nicely as it gets closer to launch. Now who knows how accurate the reports are...
A small little piece of me says to pre-order it, get it in initially, then sit on it unopened until the first few weeks of reviews come in after launch. That way, if I decide I want it, I have it and I'm not scouring around looking for it in case there is a mad Christmas rush for it (like the initial 360/wii/ps3, rock band, etc launches) or if the reviews suck, I return it and get the money back.
The Move motion controller is hard to find by itself. I never see it at Target or Best Buy. On Gamestop.com, it is backordered and on amazon.com, it takes 2 to 4 weeks for it to ship out. I wonder what the sales have been like for the Move since it came out in September.
I assume obviously that's the deca sports game... if y'all have played the earlier deca sports game, I don't think you'd expect anything more than thatThat was one of the worst wii games out. I won't lie... Dance Central is the game I'd get along with Kinect at first...
On a different note - I went to go preorder it on bestbuy.com and they've taken the preorders off and have coming soon - usually meaning they've "sold out" their allotment. There was also an article today from the UK saying all of the major retailers over there have sold out their allotments as well. Maybe I won't have to worry about buying it in the near term after all. Besides, GT5 comes out the same day...
Omg, that looks so bad... I have no desire waving myself around like a re ed lunatic. Pass.
The Kinect better have something more to bring to the table than that.
I've read that FPS with the Move is actually better than it is on a controller.
Correction, GT5 was supposed to come out the same day
That said, Best Buy did open preordering back up yesterday for Kinect... figured why not... especially if the impending rush is coming. Worst case - I'll flip it to a begging mom (I know, that's what she said) before christmas for $100 over value...
just bringing this back up now that launch day is here...
It appears MS was doing the launch "apple-style" trying to keep as much of it under wraps as possible until this week. A lot of the reviews coming out about how well the system works are glowing and a lot of the game guys are talking about how much fun they had with it. Sure, it doesn't seem to be geared towards the core gamer, but it looks like it'll be good for family/friends fun.
I preordered mine through best buy online and they shipped it out today... don't know when it'll come in. Anyone else making the shot to get one?
I've heard only lukewarm reviews of the Kinect so far. Where are the glowing reviews you speak of? IGN gave the first game they played with it a 75%.
Just got my preorder in. I have a 5 year old, so I can't say I bought it for me. Dance Central looks fun. I'm still trying to figure out how this will work with my front projector. The Kinect likes a well lit room and the projector looks best in a dark one. Add that into the fact that my AV equipment is located behind me, I'll have to experiment with USB extensions.
The videos I seen for kinect makes the kinect seems like it has a split second lag between each other.
The kinect is cool to use as a remote to navigate through menus, but for gaming it just looks re ed.
I'm gonna buy it solely to navigate menus. everyone.
I played a demo of a game at Best Buy today and from that experience, I would say the Kinect sucks. The motion was way off and you have to stand in front of the senor and be centered. Also, you have to be at least 6 feet away for it to work. And there was a lot of lag and delay too. I played a demo of Sports Champions using The Move at Best Buy also and it was a lot better than the Kinect. The Move is a lot more sensitive than the Wii.
oprah love that , she gave it 5 fried drumsticks
I don't really see the big deal with having enough space in front of you to play. Seems like if you don't have a big enough room in your house or apartment to play this thing, you probably aren't the demographic Microsoft expects to have the $150 of disposable income to spend on the Kinect.
If anything, if you have a 40" - 52" TV, it is already recommended to be placed anywhere from 5' - 9' away from you. So moving the coffee table from between you and the TV should be a non issue.
