The team deserves better than that with their record.
    Pretty pathetic really.
i think if they only charged fans to see the first three quarters it will attract more people because you we all know what happens to NO when it's the 4th quarter....i'm just kidding that was terrible.

Our fan support is a joke and as much as I love the Hornets, they deserve better than the pathetic ass support the people in this city and state provides them. (For those Hornets fans who actually do go to the games, major props to you!) However New Orleans always likes to brag about how "wonderful" of a sports town they are yet they can't even come anywhere near selling out the 2nd smallest arena in the NBA on a nightly basis. (17,100ish is considered a sellout whenever the arena can hold over 18,500). Obviously when teams are doing poorly you can expect attendance to be down, but even whenever the Hornets started the season 8-0 the attendance was awful. We have only sold out 1 game this season and that was the Heat game which attracted thousands of new N.O. Heat fans.

The Spurs game Sunday was the biggest embarrassment of the season so far. It was a Sunday afternoon, the Saints weren't playing, LSU wasn't playing, and the Spurs were in town fighting the Hornets for 1st place in the division ... and they could only get 12,400 fans to show up. The truth is that New Orleans is a Saints town and Saints town only. The cheapskate, front running fans around here only support the Hornets if ... 1. Tickets are free ... or 2. They are on a big winning streak and making national headlines. The fan support was getting better and better every season, but now has fallen down worse than I have ever seen it. The funniest thing is that most people around here ignore these facts and make pathetic excuses for why the attendance is horrible. For each and every lame excuse they use, I can easily shoot them down and expose their excuses as pure nonsense. To give a few examples I will show you some Hornets fans excuses along with my response ...

Blaming it on ticket prices ...

My response: wow really? the Hornets offer some of the cheapest tickets available in the NBA next to maybe only the New Jersey Nets! They are always running specials and you can purchase "nose bleed" tickets for as little as $7-10 each. what more do these idiots want? someone to pay them to go?

Blaming it by comparing to a ty team's attendance and a concert in town

My response: first of all the poster lied. Philly had 11k show up for that game. however with that said did he really just try and compare the attendance of ty 4-13 76ers team to the Hornets who were balling their ass off at the time? ah ok so I guess since Philly had a bad attendance night, then that justifies the Hornets for only having 12,000 show up to watch them play the Spurs??? oh and the VooDoo fest concert was in town too! lol idiots

All time low excuse, blaming it on HIGH SCHOOL football!

My response: sons this one by far takes the cake for the most pathetic, yet laughable excuse. I hope this person isn't being dead serious, but unfortunately I believe he is so according to him high school football is the reason why the attendance is bad. My god ...

14,000 is good enough for this person

    My response: Ignorance is bliss

Finally someone who sees the light

    My response: Thank you

sons this is the kind of crap that we have to deal with. I have been banned from many Hornets message boards for speaking out against this type of nonsense and trying to encourage people to support the team. Instead everyone just wants to jump on and off the bandwagon whenever it is convenient for them. The truth is that people in this state are just downright cheap, front running bas s. Yea the support for LSU and the Saints has always been solid, but just because the Saints are playing is NOT a legit excuse for Hornets attendance to be piss poor like many of them try to convince as the reason. As if no other NBA team in the country has to deal with other professional sports going on in their city? sorry sons I know this was long, but needed to expose these cheapskates.
Your team sux son, give it up. You had your 15 minutes of NBA glory for this year, now move on

Enjoy them while you can. Reduced attendance is just because no one lives in NO any more. Lack of corporate sponsorship is the real killer. What little is left is all going to the Super Bowl winning Saints. The question is who leaves first: CP3 or the whole team...

and sons just hours after I made this thread look what pops up on NOLA.com ...

Apparently, the attendance benchmark is back on the table for the New Orleans Hornets

The future of New Orleans' NBA franchise could again be uncertain.

If the Hornets do not average crowds of at least 14,213 for the next 13 games at the New Orleans Arena, the franchise can opt out of its current lease agreement with the state, according to Doug Thornton, vice president of SMG, the company that manages the Arena and the Superdome.

"From a team perspective, we believe we have a compelling product that deserves to be playing in a full building, '' Hornets President Hugh Weber said Sunday after a crucial game against the San Antonio Spurs, which drew 12,449. "As a staff, we're working so that becomes more of the common as opposed to the exception.

As much as I want them here, the Hornets should have just stayed in OKC. The city doesn't care about supporting them, and "struggling" to get 15,000 a game should NEVER be an issue when you have a player like Chris Paul on the team. Imagine how bad the crowds would be if he eventually leaves...that is if the team doesn't relocate by then. =/

sons yet even more ignorance from our fan base ...

the excuses and ignorance of some people truly amaze me. they are calling the Hornets organization weak and cowardly for speaking the absolute truth about the situation. a few things these two clowns mentioned need to be corrected ...

    1. "I see bad attendance all over the map" - No you don't. You only see it in 6 or 7 different NBA cities out of 30 (New Orleans, Atlanta, Memphis, Sacramento, Indiana, Philly, and New Jersey). Oh and surprise surprise all of those cities have teams that absolutely suck this season other than the Hornets and all of them have been mentioned in articles regarding contraction or relocation. we're not alone, but to write it off as a league wide problem whenever it is only 6 or 7 teams is just ignorant. Where was the fan support whenever the Hornets were 8-0?

    2. "I feel its unfair to us (and only us) are held under the attendance microscope." - well that is simply because the fans here won't even support a winning team. the other cities who are having attendance issues have a bull team on the floor.

    3. "I agree the Hornets can go ... they are so stupid. Thinking that threatening the city will help attendance, when its already known that once football season ends attendance will pick up" - LOL all you can do is laugh at this. people in this area act as if the Hornets are the ONLY TEAM in the NBA who has to share the market with another professional sports franchise. Just because the Saints are playing at the same time is NOT an excuse. wake up.

    4. "I look around other NBA arenas IE the Memphis Grizzlies there is no more than 3,000 people in the stands" - wow ... talk about ignorance at its finest. I guarantee you there has never been a Memphis game were only 3,000 people showed up. As a matter of fact, the Grizzlies are currently only 300 people behind the Hornets right now ... so according to this jackass I guess the Hornets are averaging 3,300 people a game then? please educate yourself with facts before spewing stupidity.

    5. "I'm not attending another game this year" - aww u mad? we sure will miss your attendance at those Heat and Laker games!

Those two guys are probably the morons who will spend $300 to see a LSU/McNeese State football game but won't s out a dime for tickets to a Hornets/Spurs game lol.

It was lame how the Heat game was the ONLY one technically "sold out" (still lots of empty seats around when I was there)....I'm sure the next sellout will come when the Lakeshow hits up the Arena.

Exactly. Even though the Heat game technically was a sellout they still didn't crack 18,000 which left 600+ empty seats

sons the ignorance continues to grow everyday. still blaming attendance on NFL football season and trying to act as if every other NBA team in the country is dealing with the same thing. This guy says he sees empty seats at the Miami Heat games and I'm sure there are some, but do these people even look at the facts? the Miami Heat are averaging 19,600 a game, the Hornets are averaging 14,200.
