    no.

All that for Varejao? No way. I wouldn't even trade Splitter straight up for him.

No, but I would trade George Hill for Omri Casspi.

George has this and next year left on his contract, at which time he is gonna want a hefty raise and starter minutes.

Omri has 3 years left on his contract.

Sacramento wants a PG for Omri.

Hill is 24 yo and shoots 38.6 from three and is 6-2. (11.2ppg)
Omri is 22 yo and shoots 40% from three and is 6-9. (8.9 ppg)

With Anderson coming back I feel we have the depth at guard to make this trade and get a smart, tall and true backup SF.
This raise will appear with Duncan`s 21mln $ coming of the books, and Gino in his last season. I don`t know about new bargaining agreement, but resigning Hill for 50mln/6yrs would be a heck of a deal along with Blair 24mln/ 2yrs+2to.

I was under the impression Hill has been pretty awful this season. Is he really worth 50 million?

I haven't seen enough of Casspi to make an educated comment here, but I did see him tonight against the Nuggets. Watching him get bullied around by Melo didn't really leave a good impression, though.

So I was having a few beers with another long time fan and he was concerned about our size in the paint particularly when we play the Lakers and Mavericks in the playoffs. So he offered up this trade idea:

Spurs trade McDyess, Splitter and our 2011 #1 pick
to Cleveland for Anderson Varejao. Cleveland cuts McDyess and we resign him 30 days later.

We get a forward that can play with energy and cause some havoc with LA and Dallas. He also has experience in the Spurs system.

Cleveland gets cap relief and a young player with upside with a very reasonable contract and a #1 pick.

    Would you make this trade?
Never happen. To cut McDyess, Cleveland would owe him the rest of this season's money, plus the 50% from next year that he's owed. They're not going to eat $6M.

lets not trade splitter. I'm getting sick of watching players we trade away bloom on other teams.

I wouldn't trade Splitter straight up for Varejao. Varejao may seem better now, but that's because he's more used to the "NBA game". Splitter is younger, longer, better offensively and has a higher upside.

For this season (had he not got his ankle messed up), Varejao would slightly increase the Spurs chances to win the championship, but not enough to justify making this deal.

For those who constantly complain about the Spurs lack of size, this wouldn't help matters. Until he adds more bulk, Splitter's more of a 4 and 1/2 than a 5, but Varejao is a 4. His listing is clearly embellished. In reality, he's no more than 6-10 250.

This team already doesn't have a true center on the roster. Why would you want to further exacerbate that situation for a minor short term upgrade, but likely a minor long term downgrade?

Unless it's someone who makes this team markedly better immediately and isn't a fossil, I wouldn't trade Splitter.

The Varejao discussion is now moot with the season-ending foot injury, but still I think this is yet another case of impatient Spurs fans giving up on Splitter way too early.

No way. I love Casspi's game, but George is a pure balla. We'll find a way to pay him because he's a future cornerstone of the franchise. Those people contending that "he sucks" or "he has sucked this year" obviously haven't been watching the games, because although he started slowly he's been playing very well for quite a while now.

I always advocate Spurs getting a tall SF. And his 3pt shooting looks good. But how good is he on the defensive end? Is he a smart defender?
Yes, Casspi is a good defender.

sorry to hear that Vareao is out for the season.

list of seriously injured bigs is growing quickly. (Oden, Yao, Haslem)

this ends any discussion, if Spurs should trade for Varejao, like some rumors about interest from the Spurs reported some weeks ago.
btw. if it would have been Dice (plus filler) plus 2011 1st rounder, I would have been all for it. if it had included Dice+Splitter, then no.

Cavs look bound for worst team in the league this season. (with no Lebron waiting in the 2011 draft class)
