Pick and roll and going inside - Spurs do not need another perimeter soft big - what they need is what Splitter is showing go in and bang around, take some charges and on offense go in and get to the line - even if he does not score much - if he just plays defense Spurs will be fine.
He actually has a TS% higher than many Western Bigs!

His PER is near that of Cousins and above Dice and Bonner! Give the guy a damm break he is not the stiff some haters have put him out to be the more he plays his stats and efficiency will go up and he is when he bodied up to Bynum the other night took a charge and got a few boards - I said thank goodness Spurs have ONE other player besides Duncan who can do that kind of thing!
Splitter given time will be just as a savy as Oberto with a of lot more of an upside and the last time I looked at the great SI cover on my wall from the le of 2007 it was a grinning Oberto walking off the court with Manu/Parker/Duncan (and Bowen - what a great cover by the way!) http://sanantoniospurs.sportsfanboot...tograph-print/ Shows it!
This year would it not be ironic to have Duncan/Manu/Tony/Jefferson and Splitter walking off to victory but knowing Pop it will probably have to be Bonnner on the court at the end! (Will not care if Spurs win but would also be nice if it was Dice!)

He has been solid all year-but not too many players will come into a game with the garbage time players...play for 1 or 2 minutes...and score 20 points.
Not too many players will be thrown into garbage time minutes every third or fourth game-and not make a single mistake.
I would bet my paycheck that if Tiago received the SAME minutes as Bonner...the Spurs would be an even better team.
Slowly, Pop will have to give in a bit and give Tiago IMPORTANT CONSISTENT MINUTES....
then the doubters will see what some of us already see.
You homers are a joke. What would you expect the spurs record to be at this point if you think they would be even better with Splitter?
I doubt Splitter will play any major role in the playoffs this year.

Without any perimeter game and a weak flip shot and the occasional dunk Splitter is limited offensively and he is not a good rebounder or defensive intimidator( shot blocker or force players back out from going to the basket) so his upside is topped out as a backup role player.
PT for Splitter and Anderson would be nice and that might come in the home stretch, but if the entire team is healthy in the next few weeks, significant PT will not be available to go 11 or 12 deep.
The Spurs have done a pretty good job rebuilding their bench, but this is the downside when you are trying to win as many games as possible. Development time is lessened.
I wouldn't be surprised if Mcdyess comes back next year.
The Spurs biggest weakness IMO right now is a lack of size to match up with the bigger front lines of LA and Dallas. Splitter is size on the inside and could possible help their interior defense.
Experience for Splitter could come at the cost of games where he made some rookie mistakes. If he got crunch time minutes consistently, maybe SA could be a more well rounded PO team.
Pop is not willing to make that trade off right now looks to me. The team with the best regular season record is not automatically the most dangerous PO team. Still, I think SA has a lot of room for improvement with the new guys they brought in this year. We may not see all of the benefits of the additions until next year, though with Anderson and Splitter getting so little time due to injuries and missing significant time.
I don't get the hate for Splitter. He's young, mobile, plays and defends the pick-and-roll and can body up with Gasol/Bynum - different from the other bigs the Spurs have. What he needs is consistent minutes so he can learn and not be overly eager when he gets a few minutes. I'd be giving him more minutes in games like these so that TD and Dice can rest.
Hopefully, Splitter and Anderson get a lot of burn next year when TP and Manu are exhausted from NT play and TD and Dice are yet another year older.
He is NOT really needed offensively...
His value would be in making the defense stronger because he moves his feet better than most any other big, including TD.
The fact that his offensive game is not yet polished is unrelated to his defense or unrelated to his playing making the spurs a better team.
With Bonner you get some offense AT THE EXPENSE of the defense. I would rather see the defense improve and the open shots going to Manu,Neal,RJ,TP,etc...
Splinter doubters already sound worried, next year they'll be cutting themselves or riding his shlong, one or the other.

What? Where is there ANY evidence of that? He played 7 minutes in our first game with LA and was abused inside. He played 4 minutes Thursday and I wouldn't say he can "body up" with the Laker bigs. He drew a charge because his upper body strength is so weak that whenever there's contact he looks like a bumbling scarecrow as he gets bowled over backwards. There's absolutely zero evidence of his utility on the defensive end. I guess if you repeat it enough times on ST it will come true in your head, but if you actually watch the games...
Stupidest comment of the thread. Obviously there's no way to know, but how could we be better than 42-8? So stupid.
Splitter is size but he can't elevate so he plays much smaller for his Size. He also gets muscled out of position by most his size, so again plays much smaller for his size. He tries to take a charge instead of defending like a true big with size will do.
What is not to like in that cover, three Argentineans in the cover!!!
Splitter was getting abused somewhat by Bynum, but he was also making Bynum work hard to get post position as well. Splitter needs a Summer with the Spurs strength coach, but I like how he competes on the defensive end.
