One of the worst trades in NBA history in my opinion. Wasn't Perkins the reason why the Celtics won the Finals in 2008 and lost the championship last year? This really hurts the Celtics and kind of takes away their elite status.

Fair points. I'm going to discount the one about long-term issues, because really, I want to win this year. I understand the C's are going to go to crap in a year or two; I can begrudingly accept that.

And if Perkins can't fully recover, I understand that too.

But damn it, that starting five has been together since 2007, they won a ring together, and they almost won one last year. It's ing criminal to split them up. And yes, I'm speaking more as a fan than an analyst here.
Lngrr Harlem, makes some good points ... and Green though not the sharpest tool in the shed, may very well benefit and develop being around the Celtics great history and the big 3 ...

But Perk made me nervous. He scared Pau less. Bynum had to deal with him. Sure, the league is getting smaller and playing faster but that frontline was what made the Celts tough to beat. That and GREAT defensive chemistry ... I just think when you are playing THAT well why mess that up. And why makeover your team to match the teams that have not won ? The Steelers & Pats for example dont change their formula much they force YOU to adjust to what THEY do well ...

Still dont like this deal ... but Green is a versatile player and a better scorer than Perk I guess ...

Yes, i would of traded Bynum for Melo but like Lngrr I undertsnad whywe did not. Trading away size when it is a precious commodity from a le team is never easy to do ...nor prudent.

That history isn't going to give Green shots ahead of Pierce, Ray Allen, and KG. This move just makes no sense.

Ainge betting it all on Shaq? Strange days indeed!

"[Perkins] wasn’t interested in doing a contract extension," Ainge said. "He wanted to test the market." It was reported that the Perkins rejected a four-year $22 million offer from the team. Perkins was reportedly asking for $30 million over the same period. "It's tough to play the O'Neals and Perk at the same time," Ainge said. "Shaq has proven to be better with our starters. We beat all of the top teams without Kendrick."

Yeah, I saw that quote and my eyebrows raised so high that I think they bumped into a satellite. Relying on Shaq and Jermaine? Really?

I thought he was their missing piece in last year's game 7? And now they're just going to trade him like that?

Perkins is probably the best low post defender in the league. How in the could he not be worth $30M? And why are the Celtics being so effing cheap? Cheapness made the following players walk: Posey, T Allen, and now Perk is gone. They all were key players to the Celtic 2008 championship team. That team played OUTSTANDING defense and Perk was in the middle of it all. It's sad too because normally big guys are worth at least that much. You can't really put a price on the things Perk brought to the table defensively. Now you guys are depending on 39 year old Shaq to deal with Bynum, Pau, and LO? The Celtics are in trouble. I don't see them getting past the Bulls or even...the Hype tbh.

If Boston does get out of the East, the big bad Lakers will be waiting. We still got our size, we still got championship swagger, and we still remember 2008's game 6 debacle. Kobe surely won't show them any mercy either. He would become the first Laker in team history to defeat the Celtics twice in the Finals. No Posey or Tony Allen to slow him down. Let's ponder who the Celtics have on defense to check Kobe: Ray Ray, Delonte and ex-Laker Von Wafer. These are the defensive studs that are standing in his way from him getting #6.

Please excuse me while I get this out of my system:

    This must suck for LnGrrrR.
