They currently have 1 alternate available during playoffs only.

I think holding TP out may have been more precautionary (Pop being Pop) than anything else. Hopefully he's good to go on Tuesday....

RJ was pretty good when it counted though.
RJ had some HUGE boards and played a pretty good defensive game.

Last year, I pointed out on numerous occasions that RJ's production, even when it was pretty good, was insignificant to the outcome of the game. This year, he couldn't be a more perfect opposite. He can fail to produce numbers, but still makes plays that are critical, be they rebounds, drawing fouls or hitting big threes.

Have I mentioned lately how much I love his new contract?

RJ needs to step up the aggression. Just because you are a role player, doesn't mean you have to be content to just "exist" on the court. He just floats around too often for my liking. He is having a better season than last year, but he needs to get the decision making, aggression and passion back.

Yeah, he's doing that a lot more lately, but it just feels like he's a little run down and out of rhythm. He's obviously still got his head in the game because he's stepping up. As long as he does that, he can take another month off until he gets his second wind as far as I'm concerned.

Couple of tidbits from this game...

    - If it took Splitter 5 weeks to recover from some calf bruise early in the season, it'll probably take Tony 5 days.

    - What's the actual impact of Nuñez being out for the season? Anybody know the records of the top 5 teams in the league when Nuñez has refereed them? (FWD?)

You don't actually believe injuries are why Splitter isn't playing, do you? Or do you also think that he's doing bad in practice?

Splitter always had these smallish/nagging injuries and he always seemed to miss a good bunch of games because of them (and this goes back his days in the Spanish league).

    Pretty good statement.

Does anyone recall at the start of the season how aggressive RJ was? Not only was he hitting the 3 ball, but he was also aggressively going to the rack hard and drawing lots of fouls.

Why can't he continue to do that? Does Pop not want him to?

It's a long ing season. There's a case to be made that going aggressively to the rack and drawing lots of fouls takes a toll on you. Let's be glad that he's still pulling it out enough to win on any given night when it's needed. It's not like he's forgotten where to be or when to take the right shot.

Weird, I seem to remember him being MVP and winning a lot of games in the Spanish League.

Yeah, I think it's a product of actually being played consistently during the times that he's healthy. Pop hasn't typically had a track record of putting an injured player into the game for 2 minutes at the end of quarters and garbage time, but maybe he's trying to help Splitter get his wind up or something.

It's a long ing season?????????? What does that mean? He can't ever go to the rack two or three times a game to mix it up? I know full well that it takes a toll as I want TP to do it a little less and mix in some jump shots.

So excuse me if RJ can't go to the rack, but we've gotta let TP do it every ing possession. GREAT LOGIC on your part. Just let TP do it all game and Richard can do it twice a month. We've got other players capable of doing it like RJ and Hill, but they hardly ever do it and TP is usually the one doing most of the penetrating all game and getting knocked down. How about RJ and Hill pick up some of that slack?

I can't believe I have to explain this to a Spurs fan. Oh well, here goes.

I guess I missed the part where I was telling you that Parker needs to go in and take a bunch of abuse (he isn't, btw). RJ is contributing to wins. Not sure why you're so gung ho for him to go get the crap beat out of him, when he's shooting well and getting rebounds when it matters. The fact that he's paying attention but not going full-bore makes me think that he's pacing himself, perhaps he's got some nagging thing that he doesn't want to make worse, and I'm okay with that. Clearly he's shown since the offseason that he's enough of a professional that we can trust him to do the right thing for the team.

"It's a long ing season" means that professional athletes take wear and tear like you can't believe, and it's really ing easy for us to sit here on our computers and type about how they aren't giving their all for 82 games or sacrificing their bodies enough. I say that guys get weary over a long season, catch their second wind as the playoffs get near, and need some rest on occasion. Manu's stepped up lately and hopefully he'll get a little rest going forward as Anderson and Neal both come back into the rotation. Parker hasn't gone as hard as he did the last three years at any time so far this season, and that's all right. They're winning, they're playing well, nobody's getting excessive minutes. I want these guys fresh for a playoff run. They're going to ramp up the intensity close to the end of the season, and I expect for them to start trying to get guys some rest here pretty soon.

OK so you never mentioned TP, but I decided to because I think RJ can diversify the offense more if he gets to the rack and draws fouls like he did early in the season. He had a great balance to start the season with driving and shooting the ball so I don't know why he is standing around and being a spot up shooter these last few months. Maybe he is pacing himself, but what about George Hill? What is his excuse? He has the tools to do it, but is still playing TOO passive at times.

It's irrelevant that TP might not be going as hard as previous seasons when he is still going harder than anyone else on the team. Manu, there is no need to mention as we all know it is probably by design.

Seriously RJ is spotting up all game these days and hardly ever attempts to drive the ball. Are you telling me he is that tired that he can't go to the rack at least once or twice a game? Is this by design? Do the Spurs not want him to try to get to the free throw line at all?

RJ has definitely improved and is playing well I just don't see why we can't set up some plays for him to penetrate more. So you think this is might be a part of resting players?

I watched Tiago shooting baskets, running pickn'roll drills, and practicing freethrows for about half an hour before the game. Was surprised to see he'd changed out of uniform into street clothes right before the game. He was looking fine. We'll hopefully see him on Tuesday. When Blair went to the lockerroom, it was cause for concern. Coach Bud said we'd know more about Tony's calf contusion today, "in 24 hours."

You mentioned this in a previous point, and I initially discounted it, but in writing my response to you last night I started to think that it might have some merit. It's possible that Pop did tell him to wait until the games matter again to start doing that, and trusts RJ to do it because he's been so aware of the situations, getting clutch rebounds and baskets.

We'll find out pretty quick if that's the case, because there's no telling Manu to pump the brakes, and guys are going to need to step up for the next few weeks to keep their other star guard healthy.
