It's not so much that Splitter is the next coming of Pau Gasol, but that he could be a better option than what we are doing now. I think that's what people are arguing. If and when we meet the Lakers, having two competent bigs on the floor to combat theirs would be a huge plus. If nothing else, just having the option to bring in a guy who can at least show in the paint would be good.
Also, if he's such a liability, which I feel he could be, given his limited playing time (circular argument), why bring him to the Spurs at all? Is he trade bait?
I trust Pop's call here, but I don't understand it completely.
