Dirk averaged 7 rpg the past two seasons.
Dallas doesn't call on Dirk to rebound

As if things couldn't be a bigger cluster right now, in walks 'PG.

    Christ.
    elo chum.

you were wrong about the Mavs
Kind of. Mavs are balling and I have clearly said Dirk has been a beast this year. I picked the Mavs to win the first round (albeit in 7 games), and I did think LA would beat DAL (which is yet to be decided although Dallas being up 2-0 shocks me). I really wanted to see DAL vs LA and I also said Dirk would on Pau.

I did say Dallas couldn't win a le as currently constructed because they lack a second option. We will see if I am right as I don't think they beat BOS or MIA and even LA is not done yet.

But they are playing much better than I thought they would overall even if the end result I predicted will not be much different.

Barkley, Malone, Garnett, Dirk and McHale (which is a reach) are the ones I'd think of as top 5 after Duncan (I consider worthy a SF). After that it gets pretty gross.

    Jesus, here we go.

I know where this thread is headed. A back and forth between Oden/Orton/some other Mavfan vs Jag/DPG for 3 pages with a racial slur here and there.

then some dumbass like LkrFan will pop in and post something re ed like "Rasheed Wallace>>>>>_Irk" and then the thread will go downhill (will probably involve some copy and paste)
Hey, I bring the basketball take goods. You may not agree with my methods, but the discussion is basketball related.

Ya, that was my point. If Dirk wins a le I'm not sure how he's not the frontrunner for 2nd best PF ever.

There's Barkley, Malone, Garnett then who's next? Worthy? After that Chris Webber starts entering the discussion
There aren't a lot of people in there. I was just taken aback by Stretch's amnesia. Like he forgot Malone, Barkley and KG existed.

There isn't much to argue about. Like I said, it depends on what you value. Unless he knocks out b2b les, I think Dirk is on the outside looking in when you consider top 3 PFs of all time. Mostly due to his defense.

IF Dirk wins a ring this year, I can see the argument for putting him second. Not saying I would put him there, but it won't be absurd if he does get that elusive Championship.

Malone is one of the most overrated players in NBA history. I'd take Dirk over him even if the Mavs lost this series and he had another choke on his record.

Dirk has made tremendous strides on both sides of the ball since entering the league.
Tremendous is a gross overstatement when considering both ends. Did he improve for a period of time on defense from being a complete turnstile? Yes. Was he ever really good on that end? No.

But to his credit he played passable defense for a while and his offensive game more than offset his deficiencies on that end.

Well lets start with this: No matter what Dirk does, he will never be considered better than Duncan (don't care if you want to call him a center and cite the tail end of his career).

He will also never surpass KG.

So at best, and I mean at best, he can be considered number 3. That is not knocking Dirk. Even as a Spur fan, I am a big Dirk supporter and even bangs-magee (Oden) knows it.

I hate Malone and I agree. But keep in mind the caliber of front court players he had to compete against, as well as the ones he had as teammates. Winning games with Greg Ostertag isn't any easier than winning games with Brendan Haywood. Malone never had a Tyson Chandler.

in what sense is Malone over-rated? he was a monster on offense, a damn good defender, and his year-in year-out performance is unlike anything any other player achieved.

IMO, Duncan at #1 is obvious, KG and Dirk being the other 2 in the top 3 is also obvious in my book. Malone and Barkley IMO would struggle in the era of long and athletic power forwards Duncan, KG and Dirk play in.

The guy disappeared at some of the biggest moments in his career. No reason to go into it.

i've said it once and i'll say it again:

you guys vastly underrate karl malone and overrate duncan simply because of hardware and not their actual game. if not for jordan malone would have rang a couple times. put duncan in jordans rookie class and duncan never sniffs a ring either.
Those Jazz teams are overrated because they lose to the Jordan Bulls. The 1997-1998 Jazz wouldn't even make the conference finals in the modern day Western Conference. The 1997 and 1998 West was going through a transitional phase and was at an incredibly weak point.

Karl Malone in today's NBA would be Carlos Boozer with a little more scoring.

you just clearly don't know jack- about basketball, or at least, karl Malone. the dude was:
    3× All-Defensive First Team (1997–1999)
    All-Defensive Second Team (1988)

you know how many times Dirk and Barkley made the all-defensive team? Zero times.

so i stand by what i said. Malone was a monster on offense and damn good on defense.
