His numbers are significantly worse than last year AND he's not getting the same production from others. Bad combo

    2009: 30.2, 5.3 boards, 5.5 assists
    2010: 29.2, 6.0 boards, 5.5 assists
    2011: 24.3, 3.4 boards, 3.3 assists

    That's pretty significant downgrade

Kobe hasn't worsened or improved. He's the same. The team isn't as capable of winning despite him as they were.

Kobe's numbers from last year were severely stat-padded vs. ty defenses in Utah and Phoenix..

He shot 40% from the field against the only 2 top 5-10 defenses he played last year, Boston and OKC..

This year, he has played 2 top 5-10 defenses so far, and he's actually played pretty decently against both..he had an above average series vs. NO, and a pretty good series vs. Dallas..

He's the same player as last year, contrary to the belief of some..the only difference is that his supporting cast is worse, particularly Pau, which is reflected in the Lakers 2nd round exit..

His father was murdered a month after the three peat.
Yeah but he admitted that he started to feel burned out during the ECF vs the Knicks
Heck, he thought about taking a year off after the 92 Finals

    Boiled down, though:::::::

    Jordan: 6
    Kobe: 5

And that's having gone to college and taken 2 years off in his prime.

No. He's locked at 6. Kobe still has many years left. & he's not married to the Lakers. He'll hunt Jordan down no matter the uniform required.

Kobe's rings will never make him the GOAT. He's already negated any chance of that with the post-Shaq pre-Pau years, giving up in the playoffs, tantrums, media outbursts, Colorado....

All Bryants wants is the raw number (at least 7). He's wise enough, near psychotic enough to realize that that is enough. He cannot control the hum of debate. He can control the raw number and that is what he's hunting.

Sorta like Knight hunting the win record. He knew once he got it they'd denigrate it, but, that's on them, not him.

This defined Kobe's legacy and career. Nothing else will be remembered. It will only be that he was skunked the first time he met Tim and now that he lost to the Mavs when it was all on the line.

    Locked as the GOAT.
    yep

and its not the 6 rings alone that locks MJ as the GOAT. its not the two three-peats.

Bill Russell has more rings than MJ but no one calls him the GOAT.

here are some of the reasons MJ is the GOAT:

Players don't recover from collapses like this. He had his chance to catch Jordan. It was the single biggest event the NBA would have ever witnessed. Kobe came up short and failed. Failed spectacularly. It's over. He defined his career in the biggest moment of it and it wasn't pretty.

Bryant knows though that at 7 he can sit back and listen to to the din of debate and in his own mind he'll be convinced he is the GOAT. Kobe is not like "you" or I. He can get to 7, it's up to him. He's at the con. We're not. All we do is provide the din before, and after (if it comes to fruition). He cares only about the raw number.

He'll enter his house justified at 7.
